Here's an interesting development, Dem candidates going all "state's rights"
In Illinois, the race for the state’s top legal job has turned into a Democratic primal scream against the president.

The author of the Daily Beast article criticizes identity politics while AG candidates in Illinois are openly called out racism and offering support for affirmative action. Democrats are playing to their respective audiences.

While I think the author is silly on some of his claims about Hillary (wouldn't understand flyover pain? then why'd she offer solutions?) as well as identity politics, but at times Democrats fritter away their focus on identity issues without understanding how it relates to the core vote and winning elections, plus the right uses it it claim that Dems don't care about the majority - hardly a winning approach.
(But is he really proposing that the nominee should completely avoid identity in politics?

The majority of the public views Trump as a racist. That coupled with his attempt at covering up involvement with the Russians and paying off a pornstar makes identity politics less of an issue. The fact that the GOP is being dragged into court also helps the issue. The GOP specializes in white identity politics. I think Trump has tainted the GOP for most of the country.
