Russian accounts bought thousands of social media ads on hot-button U.S. issues ranging from Black Lives Matter to illegal immigration, according to members of the House intelligence panel. In November, lawmakers released a batch of those ads. On Thursday, they published all of the ads identified by Facebook as being connected to the Kremlin-linked Internet Research Agency.

Baltimore and Ferguson were targets of the cyberattacks. Local activists were suspicious and there was communication with the Russian, Blacktivist. The Russian tactics are successful because politicians in the United States inflame racial tensions. The recent behavior of employees at multiple businesses who harass black customers by calling the police also create the atmosphere for racial discord. Some black activists are much more concerned about what is happening within our borders to attack the black community more than they are concerned about the cyberattack.

The Russians know us better than we know ourselves. When there was talk of increasing police presence in schools after Parkland, many black parents feared for the safety of their children. Many whites never thought about police in school as being a threat. Whites calling the police on blacks who make them feel uncomfortable is a daily occurrence. We live in different worlds.
