The president managed to cause a brief firestorm by falsely accusing predecessors of neglecting slain soldiers, but real answers about why four men were killed are still elusive.
By David A. Graham @ The Atlantic, Oct. 16
On October 4, four American Special Forces soldiers were killed during an operation in Niger. Since then, the White House has been notably tight-lipped about the incident. During a press conference Monday afternoon, 12 days after the deaths, President Trump finally made his first public comments, but the remarks—in which he admitted he had not yet spoken with the families and briefly attacked Barack Obama—did little to clarify what happened or why the soldiers were in Niger [.....]

Trump's response spanked by former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff:
Edit to add: And he's got a whole string of previous tweets on "Great Leadership" as per some project he seems to be pursuing, however many of them seem to be targeted at a certaincurrent leader in particular, like the directly previous tweet:

Fallen soldier’s mother: ‘Trump did disrespect my son’

Trump is mentally impaired. He cannot control his tongue. Despite his obvious instability, he still has supporters. Note that there will not be outrage leveled at Trump from the wingnuts. They did not care when Trump attacked McCain. The deplorables will certainly not come to the defense of a fallen black soldier.

I am pleasantly surprised to see you making the equation with Trump's dissing of McCain's service record. Rather than saying it's because the soldier was black (to be clear: I am not convinced that wasn't part of it, too.) Makes me think how it does not seem possible for him to console any person in tragedy; there are all the hurricane examples, such as his statements on Hurricane Maria where he is more impressed with the size of the storm rather than what it's going to do with human beings. I recall one instance with the Houston flooding where it appeared White House handlers seemed to have dragged Melania in to temper him to say something related to people and their feelings, so that he sounded like they cared. It's like he has no sense of "the other" of any kind, other people are just there to reflect him, to be won over as fans.

Trump is a racist. He is also a narcissist. His comments on McCain should have been disqualifying, but they weren’t. If Trump could attack a white guy, blacks were not going to go unscathed. Trump supporters gave the attack on McCain a pass. They put Trump in the White House where he poses a clear and present danger to black people. Trump had demanded, and gotten, Barack Obama’s birth certificate. He told John Lewis to go back to the crime and poverty stricken neighborhood where Trump thought Lewis must reside. He formed a voter suppression commission. He put Jeff Sessions in charge of the DOJ. Trump is a white supremacist. His supporters are willingly to overlook his racism and bigotry. I have no empathy for people who do not care one wit about me. Black people suffered much more than white Trump supporters economically, yet they did not lose their humanity when it came time to vote. Why argue for more sympathy for those white Trump supporters than for black people tired of being ignored by Democrats? Black people suffered, but still voted for Democrats who were going to help immigrants and Gay people. When black voters suggest that they might stay home in 2018 because Democrats take them for granted, there is no empathy. I don’t get it. Why are welcoming messages sent to white Trumpers, but disgruntled black voters are dismissed? Why no reaching out to angry black voters?
Trump is so upset by NFL players disrespecting the military that he called McCain a loser. Trump’s attack on McCain was an attack on the military but was forgiven by the deplorables.. The deplorables stood by Trump after he attacked a Muslim Gold Star family. If Trump had support despite those attacks, there is no way that an attack on a fallen black soldier is going to touch the deplorables. The attack on the Congresswoman. the soldier’ wife and the soldier’s mother was a racist attack. Some don’t want to deal with the racism. Trump encouraged people at his rallies to attack protesters. An old guy sucker punched a black man being escorted out of a Trump rally. The police did not handcuff the white guy. They put the black guy on the floor then hand and detained him. The white guy was arrested later. In court, the black guy had to give the obligatory hung to the racist white guy to make white people feel everything was OK. Black people knew it was a crock of feces. Whites demand forgiveness is demand from blacks. The hug was an abomination. AA, you will never understand my perspective on this

Donald Trump is a racist. His white supporters are no different than the Southern whites who tolerated Jim Crow. Because they are silent, black lives are in jeopardy. Black votes are in jeopardy. I will be develop empathy for Trump supporters when they develop empathy for me.

AA, you repeatedly make accusations about me. When I respond, you go radio silence, I would appreciate in the future that you simply not read my posts. You do not want dialog. Dialog is about disagreements.

As you wish. But first, a final comment of two points:
1. this is the first time ever in 13 years participating on internet blogs and forums, including as a moderator, where someone complained about me letting them have the last word.
2. Myself, I'm really not into "dialoguing" the same things over and over and over, life is too short. And I never liked debate. Like to make my point and move on.

That approach seems very limiting to me. As more data comes in, you analyze and see if it alters your opinion. For example, in the discussion on profanity, I felt that blacks could not expect whites not to use the word nigger. I dislike the word, and I think that it will die out. As more data came in, I actually saw that whites were punished for using the word. High school students, college students, Bill Maher, and Martha Stewart all received pushback for using the word. I came to accept that by society shaming whites caught using the word, the word has been taken back.
In the discussion on white Trump supporters, as new information comes in, I don’t see them becoming Democrats. With 46% of the country and 76% of Republicans feeling that MSM is creating fake news about Trump being reported yesterday, I am not optimistic about a change in attitudes. If people have different data, they are free to post it.
I think discussion can, in some cases, change opinions. If there is a shift in white Trump supporters after they see the sticker shock on changes to Obamacare funding, I’ll point it out.

We have to face reality. 46% of the public thinks that news media make up stories about Trump. The percent of Trump supporters who believe that there is fake news is 76%. We put ourselves at risk when we believe that the public is going to magically turn to our side. We have to energize the true Democratic base to save the country.

The New York Times reports on the lies Trump supporters are fed on their media sources about health care
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/16/opinion/trump-health-care.html?_r=0
Trump supporters will continue to believe the lies despite seeing their premiums increase. I don’t see how you can force them into reality.
