    Solar Decathlon under assembly

Solar Decathlon: A sneak peek at the houses from Mother Nature Network offers a quick look at each entry. Assembly started yesterday, and the event is open to the public starting September 23rd through October 2nd at the National Mall's West Potomac Park, near the FDR memorial, and not too far from the MLK memorial.

The Solar Decathlon site is, unfortunately, just over a mile from the Smithsonian Metro station, so it will be a much longer walk to get there than before. However, DOE is running a shuttle every fifteen minutes, from Smithsonian Metro to the site, and back. Also, Washington Area Bicyclist Association has set up a bike valet system, so you can ride to the event, hand over your bike and not worry (so much) about theft.

In years past we ignored the street vendors and walked a few blocks to find lunch in the atrium of a federal office building. This year's site is not that close to the Federal complex, but the shuttle may go past a decent restaurant. I'd advise you to bring water, but it will probably be available from street vendors.

If I could put in a request... I hope you'll create an online photo album of what you saw at the competition.  I was very curious to see some of the interior layouts and accouterments.

I was only gonna write a haiku about each entry ...

but maybe photos would be better.

If we can get at least one haiku for each entry, I'll bring them with me on Sunday.
