The economist Roubini predicted last week we would go over the cliff, and as with the 08 bailout, only a market plunge would get (Republicans) in Congress to act.
As Krugman has said, the Republican Party is facing extinction, and because of that they are very dangerous. They have nothing much to lose.

Boehner may be done. He may lose his status in January.
But the House repubs did manage to pass some bail-out for the Pentagon earlier in the day.
I do not understand it and I do not have the faintest idea what Reid will do with it in the Senate.
I suggest that this Congressional mess is an interesting topic.
We shall see.
But like you say, big business is pissed off and sides with the WH.
