This is really ridiculous.
Honestly, however, anyone who owns a gun and acts as if they are there for anything besides blowing a hole in someone else has mental health issues themselves.
The two issues aren't unrelated. A huge change in the way mentally ill are approached by authorities would lead to less people owning guns - because the unhinged tend to buy more firearms. The approach to mental health right now makes mental health treatment a personal choice - with all the commercial psych meds I've written about being a good example - and the patients are basically able to do things like go out and own firearms, etc.
If you want to reform this issue, it'll mean alot of government intervention. Alot less money will be made. Nothing in America happens unless someone is profiting from it and psyched out people shooting each other happened because it benefited more than a few.
