Spurred by the shooting of 4-year-old Luisito Oyola Jr., six months ago, Assemblyman Luis Sepulveda and state Sen. Jeffrey Klein co-authored a bill that increases the charges for a gunman caught firing around kids.
The lawmakers introduced the measure on Wednesday.
If passed, “Luisito’s Law” would make it a felony to shoot a gun within 500 feet of a school, park or playground — a charge that carries a 3 1/2- to 15-year prison sentence [....]

What the hell is the matter with that?
The right wing keeps on opening loop holes for guns and the right to shoot and the right to scare the living crap out of anyone the shooter does not like.
The left needs to 'play' with the law also.
And, my God, why not attempt to protect our babies?

Indeed, that's the question-I find it a very clever bit of law in that I am wondering what the gun lobby could possibly come up with to rail against it. On the other hand, I wonder if it would have much real impact, as I don't think the intended targets expect to get caught firing a weapon wherever they are doing it and most likely are not considering length of sentence. There are similar laws about drug dealing, and there the perps expect greater police presence (or tattling to the police by others,) so they move the business to other areas, so maybe...

I suppose under the law they would find a way to eventually prevent these woman from protecting themselves and charging them with a crime? Because they would get the tape out and see how close they were to a school or other home with children?
