President Trump has told senior aides that he has decided to remove Stephen K. Bannon, the embattled White House chief strategist who helped Mr. Trump win the 2016 election, according to two administration officials briefed on the discussion.
The president and senior White House officials were debating when and how to dismiss Mr. Bannon. The two administration officials cautioned that Mr. Trump is known to be averse to confrontation within his inner circle, and could decide to keep on Mr. Bannon for some time.
As of Friday morning, the two men were still discussing Mr. Bannon’s future, the officials said [....]

Bannon calls white nationalists ‘a collection of clowns'

He's gone now, there's confirmation on CNN TV in the background.
I'm so glad I caught the minutes earlier breaking version of the NYT story that has likely been edited since I posted it.
Not because I think following "breaking" is always a smart way to spend one's time. Moreso because it reveals something about White House modus operandi.
Looks to me like this: pick up the phone, give a leak to Maggie and then appears a breaking banner at the NYTimes, this will do Quick Work of moving a guy out of the door when he's being argumentative?
by artappraiser on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 1:09pm
The article further states that Bannon "had submitted his resignation to the president on Aug. 7", which may explain his unexpected interviews of late.
by barefooted on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 1:18pm
So to me that says: these two sources wanted it known today that he had already submitted a resignation. I.E.: today is the time for you to go. Via leak. It kind of bothers me when politicians use the media this way. But what else can be done with this crazy white house.
by artappraiser on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 1:52pm
Politicians using the media??? Say it ain't so!
by barefooted on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 1:59pm
From Politico:
I doubt that there is any plan or process. It's just an endless pyrotechnic shitshow. And keep in mind that this happened after General Discipline become chief of staff.

Just for the record, this is the exact NYT headline I caught when I first started the thread:
Trump Tells Aides He Has Decided to Remove Stephen Bannon
and I did not alter the excerpt I posted.
by artappraiser on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 1:38pm
Interesting that in the original version it was Trump "decided to remove" Bannon, but now it was mutually agreed upon by Bannon and Kelly ... I predict it won't take long for Trump to be annoyed at the idea that it wasn't strictly his decision.
by barefooted on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 1:55pm
and a reminder that in the infamous Tues. presser, Trump said we'll see (Guardian link)
by artappraiser on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 2:12pm
extra "and" for the conspiratorial: when I saw Kuttner on either MSNBC or CNN on Weds. night, he said he thought Bannon's phone call must have been slightly before the press conference started. But in his article, he also describes getting a contact call before that, asking him if he'd like to come and meet with Bannon at the White House. And when he replied that he was actually on vacation but he would be pleased to talk on the phone, Bannon called him quickly thereafter.

Just saw this tweet from Trump.
White supremacists abandon me over Bannon. Why? I still have Gorka and Miller. Nazis show me no loyalty after supporting them in Charlottesville. Sad!
by ocean-kat on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 5:00pm
All of these things:
by artappraiser on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 5:35pm
So will the white supremacists turn on Bannon and Breitbart or will they turn on Trump?
by rmrd0000 on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 3:10pm
I'm betting now that their movement is dead and neither wing will want anything to do with them. Just ran across Murdoch's NYPost is promoting this video really ridiculing Chris Cantwell as a goofy loser
by artappraiser on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 9:33pm
Whatever the losers, clowns, trolls and Russian bots do, they have irreversibly moved beyond the ddddeeeeefleeecccccttttttionnnn point where, even in their warped twisted Limbaughtomized minds, they can blame this epic tRumpster fire on Hillary or Obama.
by NCD on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 10:28pm
ah but but but I was just reminded this evening by Maddow's show that Mercer just loves him some Clinton conspiracy theories and he is the one that may be paying a lot of the bills here. Maybe they'll have to go back to Vince Foster, as the more recent ones are getting real tiresome, but they'll think of something to keep the paymaster happy?
*Reminder: Hilary's book due out Sept. 12. They can't just let her have control of the narrative, no way.

lol! Bannon's White House exit lifts U.S. stocks
Published August 18, 2017 Reuters
by artappraiser on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 3:14pm
begs the question: who are the real economic nationalists? those with Mr. Bannon or those willing to put more money down on U.S. stocks because he's out of the White House?
by artappraiser on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 3:22pm
the traders actually cheered and applauded:
by artappraiser on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 4:19pm
The DOW lift was washed out by the close, dropped 100 points from high in last 3 hours, especially last hour. Closed down 76.

Here's what you get currently over at Breitbart home page:
by artappraiser on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 7:24pm
and on MSNBC & CNN TV they are all mentioning this interview Bannon just gave to The Weekly Standard where he says we are now going to get establishment Republicanism from the White House, among other things:
by artappraiser on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 7:50pm
verrry interesting from the NYT article on Thurs Trump donor dinner I just posted on the news thread, long Mercer meeting with Bannon Weds. and dinner with Trump Thurs night.:
On the teevee this evening I heard speculation (and that is all it was) from some talking head that Bannon is so close with the Mercers that they could fund Breitbart to become a big media empire. Especially given that Bannon despises Fox/Murdoch (and vicey versa) as the mouthpiece for establishment Republicanism. (In a way the latter makes a kind of crazy sense to me, because one thinks of the stereotype Fox viewer as anti-elite working class type, and even liberals ridicule that the stereotypical viewers listen to and fall for establishment Republican arguments at Fox that actually benefit the upper classes.)

This is very good on how the globalists and moderates "sweating the details" won out over Bannon (whose "strategy" was mainly trying to win on policy by playing to base and to Trump and proposing wacky and radical stuff?).
Why Bannon Lost and the Globalists Won
He talked a big game. But he got outmaneuevered and outsmarted by his enemies at nearly every turn.
By BILL SCHER, @ PoliticoMagazine.com, August 18, 2017
Makes sense now that Kelly is installed that apart from having to do it for a crazy Prez who has his family on staff, he would want to get rid of the people who talk theory and accomplish nothing in preference for those who actually know how to execute something.

Daily Beast this evening has a "primal scream" interview from Ann Coulter
by artappraiser on Fri, 08/18/2017 - 10:25pm
A reminder that Tuesday Mr. Bannon reached out to the editor of a liberal publication to talk about how much he agreed with him on trade with China and about how the U.S. should handle North Korea.
Don't know why, neither does Mr. Kuttner as of this evening, he's still puzzled. Though I've hear him insist on the teevee this evening that he thinks Bannon may still maintain direct input to Trump.
I not seen/heard anyone pick up on this meme of a reach out to the other end of the spectrum on policy.
Just sayin' and we'll see (funny didn't Trump just say that recently too?)

(I haven't listened to the latter yet.)by artappraiser on Sat, 08/19/2017 - 11:57am
very helpful to read this new piece @ The Hill, compares Rove and Bannon, and the whole inside/outside the swamp thing, by former Rove associate White House political director to former President George W. Bush. and currently still pretty powerful as Matt Schlapp is chairman of the American Conservative Union and CPAC.
OPINION | Bannon's real political enemies are in the 'resistance,' not the White House
by artappraiser on Sat, 08/19/2017 - 3:42pm
Made me check Rove's twitter, where I found that the day before he tweeted the Bush statements on Charlottesville, he tweeted a "thoughtful piece on an important topic" and the article was titled "Fire Steve Bannon"
by artappraiser on Sat, 08/19/2017 - 3:53pm
He already knew in late July & things were fine for slow exit BUT THEN, real estate buddies complained! and then...Bannon Was Set for a Graceful Exit. Then Came Charlottesville.
