Trump says he called Schumer to broker deal with Democrats for ‘a great HealthCare Bill’ Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer issued a statement in response to the president’s tweet. He said he is willing to work to "improve the existing health care system" but not to "repeal and replace" the Affordable Care Act

[....] "The president wanted to make another run at repeal and replace and I told the president that's off the table," Schumer said in a statement. "If he wants to work together to improve the existing health care system, we Democrats are open to his suggestions. A good place to start might be the Alexander-Murray negotiations that would stabilize the system and lower costs."
Schumer was referring to a bipartisan health-care proposal by Sens. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) and Patty Murray (D-Wash.).
On Friday, Democratic lawmakers condemned new rules issued by the Trump administration that widen the range of employers and insurers that can avoid the ACA requirement that birth control pills and other contraceptives be covered by insurance as part of preventive care because of religious beliefs.
"Particularly after the birth control decision yesterday, the administration has to stop sabotaging the law before anything real can happen," a Democratic aide, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the aide was not authorized to be quoted by name, said Saturday [....]

Trump can't broker a deal with Schumer and democrats for many of the same reasons he couldn't broker a deal with republicans. He knows nothing about health care. He knows nothing about the ACA. He has no idea what he wants as a health care program. He has neither the intellect nor the interest to learn about any of those things. If we go by his campaign promises he wants the impossible. I know that what he said on the campaign trail was nothing more than ignorant babble spouted for the ignorant masses but he claimed his health care plan would cover everyone including those with pre-existing conditions, have lower deductables, and cost less.
When he sat down with republicans to hash out a deal all those campaign promises weren't even part of the conversation but that didn't help. He still had no idea about health care or any of the republican proposals. According to republicans in the meeting he took no part in any discussion of the details and repeatedly derailed that discussion with non sequitur anecdotes, often about his "great, unprecedented" election victory.

I could be wrong but what I am sensing here is that Chuck sorta has that in the back of his mind, he is thinking that Trump hasn't a clue about the whole ongoing Alexander/Murray thing, doesn't even know it's going on, and might just bite at it as a new shiny thing he could somehow spin to his narcissistic advantage.
