DefCon hacker conference releases voting machine hack report.

I really hope that everyone here will read this. I printed that out because it was too hard to follow on my small screen. This somehow has to be dealt with. I listened to the author's interview on MSNBC radio today, and he says there are some fairly easy fixes that as a temporary effort, could be in place for 2018:
1. There are only 14 states that have the voting machines that DEF CON attendees hacked within minutes. They simply need to be taken off-line. Some of them had permanent, UNCHANGEABLE passwords such as "abcde!" There is no reason for them to remain connected to the internet throughout the voting process, and every reason not to.
2. Many states (like mine -- Virginia) have switched to a paper ballot, which we fill in, and then scan to a hard drive. The paper votes are saved, and thereby are auditable. The computers that receive the scans need to be off-line, with results taken by thumb-drives to central areas. I don't know if that is the case here.
3. All voter registration rolls must be kept off-line. Period.
There is more about this, but unless the powers that be have an actual appetite for keeping our democratic institutions functioning, and thereby giving our citizens confidence in these very institutions...it won't happen. If the concern is limited to being suspicious of our own voters instead of actually making our election system secure from office outside players who only want us to fail, we will continue to have elections that should be nullified, such as this last one.
The "winners" have no desire to make these needed changes. I think we have turned a corner, and if Mueller doesn't hurry up and ultimately get this election nullified, I think it is too late.
