The Bishop and the Butterfly: Murder, Politics, and the End of the Jazz Age

On the internet, no one knows you're a dog....(or a man with a very high pitched voice)

From the LA Times, a cautionary tale: Multiple men separated from their cash, and not even a “Trick Willie is Back In Town” t-shirt to show for it.

“For would-be sugar daddies perusing SeekingMillionaire .com — “the meeting place for wealthy and beautiful singles” — there was much to like about profile #160127. “Bree”… Bree Condon, 23, of Newport Beach was a successful model and aspiring actress who’d done a Guess jeans campaign and posed for Maxim magazine’s swimsuit issue..There were no face-to-face dates, but there were intimate phone conversations, nude photos and the enticing possibility of a future with a gorgeous cover girl… Justin Brown, had been impersonating Condon online and on the telephone for years. A grand jury indicted him last week on a felony theft charge. He’s accused of duping a wealthy Miami Beach doctor out of about $15,000 the doctor believed he was sending to Condon. Los Angeles police also are investigating.

An interesting sub-text is that only the intervention of the real Bree Condon herself upended this scam.

This tells us that men stupid enough to court women who are thusly frank about their fundamental motivation (seeking millionaires) are also too chickenshit to go to the cops once they realize they’ve been scammed.

Now, I am as *addicted to beauty as the next guy, but I try to cope with it via careful harm reduction measures. These guys were not careful.
