Okay so this Adam Clark Estes at Salon is all upset because somebody at the University of Minnesota recalculated the Astrological Signs of the Zodiac to fit the changes in the Earth’s axis over the last four thousand years.

I was always wary of astrology because there used to be 12 Signs of the Zodiac and newspapers and magazines would give forecasts for the people ‘residing’ under each sign. I was wary because it seemed to me that the entire exercise posited that there were only twelve different types of people in the world and I had met at least 13.

As an aside, I purchased one issue of Astrology Today decades ago. And I swear to God Almighty that the cover read:

IS IT LOVE OR IS IT URANUS?

Well to my surprise one can now imagine 13 signs of the Zodiac. What a relief although I would be embarrassed to call myself an Ophiuchus.

I would bet that Rush Limbaugh was born under the sign of Ophiuchus because he kind of looks like an Ophiuchus.

Now I was born in late May, at least that is what they tell me and that is what is written on my short-form birth certificate.

So my whole life I thought I was born under the sign of Gemini but low and behold, it appears I have been a Taurus this entire time.

Now Gemini kind of fit as far as I was concerned; I have always been kind of manic-depressive. There always seemed to be two voices in my head at all times.

    Gemini Strength Keywords:

    - Energetic
    - Clever
    - Imaginative
    - Witty
    - Adaptable

    Gemini Weakness Keywords:

    - Superficial
    - Impulsive
    - Restless
    - Devious
    - Indecisive

    Gemini and Independence:

Gemini are extremely independent. They will not be pinned down by anyone or any rules. They need to experience the world on their own. Change and freedom are extremely important to Gemini, they will never let anyone dictate them, they are extremely independent and freedom is essential to their mental well being.

Now this all seemed to apply to my situation; I mean I always thought of myself as energetic, clever, imaginative, witty—oh so very witty,  and of course adaptable.

I really never considered the take-away characteristics as listed under the heading of weaknesses.

Thanks to Earth's wobble, astrological signs are, well, bunk. (Or even more bunk than you might expect.) Astrological signs are determined by the position of the sun relative to certain constellations on a person's day of birth. The problem is, the positions were determined more than 2,000 years ago. Nowadays, the stars have shifted in the night sky so much that horoscope signs are nearly a month off. [Read: Why Your Horoscope for 2011 Is All Wrong]

"Astrology tells us that the sun is in one position, whereas astronomy tells us it's in another position," said Joe Rao, SPACE.com's skywatching columnist and a lecturer at New York's Hayden Planetarium.

IN PICTURES: The twelve signs of the zodiac

The shift is caused by precession, the wobble in the Earth's axis caused by the gravitational attraction of the moon to the Earth's equator. Precession popped into the spotlight this week after Minnesota Planetarium Society board member Parke Kunkle told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune about the gap between the astrological and the astronomical view. The story spread around the Internet quickly, but it's actually old news, Rao said.

    Very old news.  http://www.csmonitor.com/Science/2011/0113/New-zodiac-signs-2011-Why-astrology-is-even-sillier-than-we-thought

So this wobbling of our planet has wreaked havoc lo these thousands of years.

I mean it is getting so one cannot even trust the ground one trods upon.

These scientists are the real Zodiac Killers.

Well let me tell you, I am going to refrain from dumping all that Microsoft stock, which a Gemini is directed to do just this month.

My entire life has changed irrevocably. My entire perspective on life has changed for ever and maybe even for the worse.

The precession Axial precession is the movement of the rotational axis of an astronomical body, whereby the axis slowly traces out a cone. In the case of the Earth, this type of precession is also known as the precession of the equinoxes or precession of the equator. The Earth goes through one such complete precessional cycle in a period of approximately 26,000 years, during which the positions of stars as measured in the equatorial coordinate system will slowly change; the change is actually due to the change of the coordinates. Over this cycle the Earth's north axial pole moves from where it is now, within 1° of Polaris, in a circle around the ecliptic pole, with an angular radius of about 23.5 degrees (or approximately 23 degrees 27 arcminutes [2]). The shift is 1 degree in 72 years, where the angle is taken from the observer, not from the center of the circle.

But now it seems that all this Zodiac stuff has been a bunch of bull; Taurus that is.

You see Taurus is the sign of the bull.

    Taurus Strength Keywords:

    - Dependable
    - Persistent
    - Loyal
    - Patient
    - Generous

    Taurus Weakness Keywords:

    - Stubborn
    - Laziness
    - Possessive
    - Materialistic
    - Self-indulging

    Taurus and Independence:

Taurus is not the one who ventures out into the unknown and leads the way, Taurus is the one that will follow the leader and strengthen and build upon the discovered, in other words they are the one that will "dot the I's and cross the T's". This perseverance is given to them by their stubborn streak. Taurus stubborn streak is what gives their independence. They like to do things their way. They are perfectly fine on being alone, this way things get done they way they want them to be done. Taurus is not a follower, but they are not the brave one either. Taurus is perfectly independent. With their perseverance, they get things done and can do quite well for themselves.

I suppose the weakness words are more applicable to me. But I tell you what.

I would certainly wish to have a dog someday with all of the characteristics listed under the heading Strength Key Words.

    Bulls cannot all be bad.

I mean Teddy Roosevelt loved the bully _pulpit

Merrill Lynch was always bullish on America.

And people have oft times mentioned their belief that I was indeed, full of bull.

    Comments

Genetic science tells us, conception is the time our trait is formed, not at birth.

Early astrologers were unaware of the planets Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. How was their influence accounted for?

So what affect did Uranus play in your life? Laughing

That Title was the single funniest title I ever read. And it was not even on National Lampoon. ahhaahahahahha

    They were serious. hahahaha

    second thought

Asimov described this in The Stars In Their Courses which I read when I was in high school. The precession of the equinoxes convinced him that the song he had just heard in Hair was bunk.

He didn't add a 13th sign, but he did note that the time the sun was in each house varied considerably. As little as 19 days in one case, I think.

This is a delightful link Donal!!! ha

I grew up with this of course with the Fifth Dimension.

Give me a head with hair...hahahaha

Aw crap. Now I'm an Ophiuchus?  Three of my first four signs are now Ophiuchus? Damn.

I could at least pronounce Sagittarius.  Sagittarius was the Archer.

What is Ophiuchus? (Gesundheit!)  The Janitor?

P.S. Hey, I was an extra in the movie, Hair.  Unfortunately, you only get to see my back. I'm at both 43 seconds in and at about 1:09 in this scene. I'm in the green suit. Look quick.

Far frickin out. That is 43 more seconds than I got in that movie. hahahah
