(Excuse me for a moment while I laugh inside: ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha...Ha!)
You'll remember that there are recurring Kandahar offenses, all of which are and have been hailed as 'turning points in the war'. Well, a new one was imminent, and would have changed the calculus dramatically... Plus the Taliban claim the number was 541, 106 Taliban Commanders. Now personally I'm losing track about the Good Guys v. Bad Guys thing, and have just been tracking some of the sickest evidence that there is no 'winning', and that it is all so Kestone-Kops-esque that it's reached way past absurd levels. Just think how many people on all sides are being destroyed over this farce.
"In a deft propaganda ploy, the Taliban gave a gripping description of the prison break in a statement they sent out to the news media ahead of any comment from the security authorities who were just in the process of discovering the tunnel.
Zabiullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, said in the statement: “We have planned and worked on this for five months, and the tunnel is 360 meters long,” he said. “This was very important for us; we were trying to not leave anyone behind, not even one sick or old political prisoner.”
“Our mujahedeen worked in a very careful way” so as not to be discovered, Mr. Mujahid said. The tunnel wound under security check posts outside the prison and under a main highway."
Good God all-Friday.

And no guards noticed all that tunnel-digging! What a freaking travesty. Remember though: we have the finest fighting force on the planet! And the smartest Generals! They DO know how to prolong a war, though...
I read some of what's going on in Iraq; makes you put your head on the desk and cry, NCD...

Here's a thread Jolly Roger did on it on TPMCafe:

Yep. And I loved your comment on JR's thread about reuniting the Pashtun area:
"We are simpatico, I would have answered something similar.
I sometimes fantasize that creation of the nation of Pashtunistan is the key to solving a lot of problems. Let them alone to do it their way, proudly show what kinda wunnerful place they can create as a beacon to the rest of the Sunni world. See who wins that contest, Dubai or Pashtunistan. :-) It would be a little bit of helpful kick in the ass if, when the world agrees to such a state, they make it a condition that the women of such a state can freely cross the border for an alternative choice of citizenship in Pakistan or Iran, with a nice welfare check to get them started. (An Islamic version of Lysistrata might end up being written out of it.)
One thing I never got into researching is how the heck those federally adminstered tribal areas got created within Pakistan. The powers that be had no qualms about causing all kinds of horror dividing Muslim and Hindu, but no one would dare force the Pashtuns to submit fully to a state?"
Any news on how he's doing?

Any news on how he's doing?
Have had no private interaction with him, so I can't help on that front; all I know is what others have posted here.

Maybe we'll hear from him here soon.
