Assuming the evidence is trustworthy, now this is a political travesty. The friggin gall of some people. Blagojevich, as you may recall, was elected after former Illinois Governor Jim George Ryan was convicted on racketeering and fraud charges. What is with Illinois politics (and let's hope Obama is of a different breed)?
I'd love to add commentary to the story, but what can you really say except that Democrats can also be very stupid and evil.
I will comment on the photo though: How do editors always find the perfect 'I'm a guilty schmuck' file photo when a politician goes bad? From the Yahoo/AP story:
A 76-page FBI affidavit said the 51-year-old Democratic governor was intercepted on court-authorized wiretaps over the last month conspiring to sell or trade the vacant Senate seat for personal benefits for himself and his wife, Patti.
The affidavit said Blagojevich discussed getting a substantial salary for himself at a nonprofit foundation or an organization affiliated with labor unions.
It said Blagojevich also talked about getting his wife placed on corporate boards where she might get $150,000 a year in director's fees.
He also allegedly discussed getting campaign funds for himself or possibly a post in the president's cabinet or an ambassadorship once he left the governor's office.
"I want to make money," the affidavit quotes him as saying in one conversation.

For full details, I recommend TPM Muckraker's story. Here are some Blago quotes from that story:

Jim Ryan is the former Republican Illinois Attorney General who ran against Blagojevich for governor in 2002. George Ryan is the former governor and current prison inmate.
When I lived in Illinois, my impression of Jim Ryan was that he was an ultra-reactionary conservative type. Before he got into politics he was a successful prosecutor. My impression of Rod Blagojevich was that he was an attractive, articulate liberal with a pretty young family who had ambitions that probably stretched beyond Illinois. His father-in-law is an old Chicago ward guy, Alderman Dick Mell. I used to wonder how somebody as seemlingly progressive and clean as Blagojevich could marry into a family that stank of old-style Chicago politics and all the baggage associated with it.
I also used to think that if Blagojevich could overcome his name and keep rising in politics, he might have a pretty good shot at the White House some day. Blech.
Thank goodness another Illinois politician with a gorgeous family and funny name beat him to it.

It's a damn good thing (though not surprising) that the President-Elect refused to give anything to Blago other than "appreciation" if his favored candidate were appointed to the Senate.
