    The Art of the Woodpecker

I had the french doors open, I heard a loud pecking noise, there he was working on the same tree he has been working on for the past decade. He is a pileated woodpecker. The Pileated Woodpeckers are native of the Pacific Northwest, and we have seen them the 17 years we've lived in this house.  I know they live up to 9 years so this is the second generation and maybe the beginning of the third generation while we've lived here. They are fascinating to watch.

I filmed him too... it is pretty cool to watch.

    Oh this is wonderful!!!

I feel like such a dork, but I will freeze as I stand outside to see a pair of mallards sleeping on the grass or a crew of them followed by the little uns.

Or watching the graceful Sea Swallows float down to the pond.

    I like this.

Besides I sat there for a week and no one contributed. hahahah

Thanks again Dick. The woodpecks are great fun to watch, we have an Barred Owl back there too, but getting pictures of that guy is hard! He only comes out at dusk and has landed on our deck twice, but I have had no good pictures... :( One day maybe I will.

    Love the pictures

I read this in the May issue of Arizona Highways

"Plans to protect air and water, wilderness and wildlife are in fact plans to protect man"

Thank you Resistance. The Udall's as a family have always been great environmentalists. And it is true what Stewart Udall said. Interesting links, thanks.

    The art of the woodpecker.

All in all, he is my favorite woodpecker.
