Clayton Memorial Unitarian Universalist Church, with a congregation of about 15 members, is opening its doors to undocumented South Carolina immigrants, becoming the state’s first “sanctuary church.” The tiny South Carolina church is standing up to President Donald Trump’s illegal immigration crackdown that has received backing from Gov. Henry McMaster.

This is another reminder that when so-called Evangelicals talk about Christianity, they are talking about being against abortion. They are not talking about racism, sexism, or humane treatment of strangers (immigration). Matt Lewis is a Christian and a Conservative who finds it difficult to find a true Christian message in the GOP, especially in the age of Trump. Lewis cannot change parties despite his religious misgivings because he says:

Lewis sees the unborn as needing protection but he is silent when it comes to racism and bigotry. This is the mindset of the Christian Conservative.

Because Evangelicals have chosen power over the Bible, Americans have a very low opinion of the clergy. Only 31% of Catholics and 48% of Protestants view clergy in a positive light.
