Oof, Garton Ash seems more liberal since I last read him, but he seems to miss the energy liberals have put into universal health care, fair taxation, access to education, and subsistence income - all largely thwarted by the conservatives, who are then rewarded. Yeah, our tribe missed some of the paleo-urges on stopping immigration, and are a bit too ambitious/anti-liberty in enforcing equality. But I gave up as I found no sign how to attract those breached north-of-Yorkshire or Appalachian leftovers when they actively vote against people who offer solid plans to transform their fading coal mine or other rough and largely anachronistic existence. I mean, Hillary talked about pumping billions into West Virginia, but because she said one word wrong - can't even remember which, think it was knocking the coal mines that she was going to transition out of - they threw their lot in with a shyster who claimed he could make the dead walk. Loeffler (so?) in GA is still in the running, even tho she and her hubby used insider gov info to invest in *body bags* from the pandemic her team said wouldn't infect more than 50k or so. I know we can't give up, but I also know the hard-hitting Lincoln Project ads were more for us - the guys who needed to hear wouldn't change their minds with a 2 by 4.
So where *actually* to go?
