They are interviewing him (James Shaw, Jr.) on CNN TV right now, he is a really soft-spoken, polite, humble guy; impressive "young black male," that the Nashville police have already labeled a "hero"no holds barred. By the way, the shooter was clearly white.

Shooter Travis Reinking came from a "good Christian home" and Travis, like Timothy McVeigh, had claimed to be a "sovereign citizen"
He was arrested by the SS at the White House when he demanded to talk with Donald Trump last year.
Police reports also say Travis believed Taylor Swift was stalking him.
The Mom's Facebook page was reported to associate school shootings with the lack of the Ten Commandments being posted in schools like in her day.
That the Ten Commandments do not instruct the arming of mentally deranged persons with guns apparently did not occur to the family, as he had his guns returned to him after his arrest at the Trump White House.

The fact that this mentally ill person got his weapons back is outrageous. This is the NRA’s wet dream.

Just read about this school shooting in Ocala Fl on Friday now, the AP via CBSNews. com
Ocala, Florida school shooting suspect ID'd as Sky Bouche: "I shot through the door"
and found it interesting for several reasons. It shows what damage can be done with a shotgun in a school of 2,000: not much physically. But given the general fear in the population and in schools, a heck a lot of psychological damage. Just the description of how the kids knew the code red was real and how they knew what to do: chilling that we've come to that. (A reminder that not so long ago, people thought the "duck and cover" drills of the boomer's youth outrageous indicators of a world gone mad.) Then there's the irony that there's the sheriff (s) already there because walkout day was planned and kids were forbidden to participate, that alternative activities had been planned. And then there's all the costs and disruption, the buses to take the kids to pickup, the parents freaked out to the max. All because of one shotgun signaling further unknown dangers. How the freedom of anyone being able to own any kind of gun appears very very costly even if there is little physical damage.

But he's black!!!! Heads exploding everywhere...
[it'd be great not to continuously be drawn to this racial issue, but with a white murderer calmly apprehended by police - okay, Canadian - while innocent blacks continually assumed to be perps and murdered by the police.... -
will this fellow/avg Joe turned hero change our Krishna Consciousness? or do we need a million more examples before we loosen up and become sane and compassionate?]
And then there was our conversation about the deputy who stood around outside Parkland doing nothing for a half hour, with all the excuses made on his behalf. and here's a regular guy, untrained I assume, quickly sussing things up, and deciding "I'm not going down without a fight", a bit like the passengers on the 4th 9/11 flight. Perhaps it's a good lesson - that we draw on ourselves rather than relying on our authority figures, but at some point the people who we've given positions of responsibility have to be responsible, rise to the occasion, or we find some who we can trust to do so. (and sometimes "rising to the occasion" does mean "doing nothing, acting calm, calming the situation down" rather than escalating and doing something stupid. it all depends.)
