Ari Berman, reporting in the April 18, 2011 issue of The Nation, on Jim Messina, described by an associate as the most powerful person in Washington you've never heard of, and who will play a key role in Obama's re-election campaign.
Comments
Favorite graph (damn, that was loooong!):
"Even as Messina jet-sets around the country, huddling with big donors, will the campaign cultivate the small donors and grassroots activists who powered and shaped the ‘08 Obama campaign? On February 1 Politico’s Mike Allen reported that “Obama’s political operation is quietly using the afterglow of his State of the Union address to begin activating grassroots supporters as the start of a continuous wave of engagement that will culminate when he stands for reelection on Nov. 6, 2012.” As part of the effort, OFA offered T-shirts to activists featuring a tag line from Obama’s speech: “We do big things.” The article provided a revealing glimpse into the campaign’s early strategy for 2012—woo wealthy donors and sell T-shirts to the masses."
Can't help wondering why they didn't with "WTF"?
One small site I visit sometimes sells shirts that say "2P4O" (Too Progressive for Obama)

I wonder if he still sings? I mean, Kenny Loggins does, but does Jim Messina...but I always thought Loggins was the more powerful of the duo. Although admittedly, he was the more powerful member of Poco, so he has that going for him.
Sorry, I had to go there.

Most depressing line I've read in a while.
The most conservative senator barring Nelson is his role-model, and this guy is running Obama's reelection campaign...?

Egggzactly. His last appointments have all been head-bangers, too: the Gitmo shrink to help the 'Let's help veteran's mental health' thing of FLOTUS, Sperling, Furman (another Rubinite), la la la...
"Get your T-shirts here, folks!" Pay no attention to the Mega-donors behind the curtain!"
New Quinnipiac (I hate polls) says a bare majority think he deserves to be re-elected. What,Ev.Er.

I am utterly gobsmacked to learn that they are studying on how to crank up "the magic" Like American Pie said, "the man there (at the sacred store...) said the magic moved away" Fool me once, meet the new boss...(for a serious Who mashup...)

I'm sorry, but there's a special hell for anyone who would even suggest mashing up The Who with Don MacLean.
Welcome.

I know I should know Don Maclean, but...

a special hell
brings to mind a line from (maybe Don Giovanni?) "There is a special spot in hell, reserved for a man who, pursued by a sure and mortal peril, paused to ogle a naked woman through a window..."
Jennifer Jones, eh.

"The afterglow of the state of the union speech"
Gag me with a spoon! I swear before Jesus, (and I concede the self-destructiveness of the meme) I would relish the look on O's face while he concedes, that baitenswitch scumbag.
How's that for "afterglow"?
by jollyroger on Thu, 03/31/2011 - 8:41pm
That would seem to require a cigarette, IMO.

Gav'em up. Had a 60 cig/day habit--loved ever one of them...would'a smoked more but that was all I could fit in.
