Unfuckingbelievable - they continue to outcrazy my expectations. I had to go find a mainstream publication to make sure this wasn't fantasy. It wasn't.

An interesting challenge would be to name the baby something like "Pat" and enroll "it" in Medicaid.
the baby (a person since conception, no?), having no income, should certainly qualify.

You mean the foetus? Or even the embryo, in which case the embryo person can apply for its own health care and potentially even its own abortion (signed off by its legal guardian, of course). I wonder if birth control can be covered by pre-planning for personhood, since life begins before conception, the evil immoral glint in the mother's eye as has been documented and sung about so many times. Perhaps "Original Sin Prevention" will get more conservative support.
