Police were called after a petrol station near Stuttgart began charging €9.99 per litre ($40 per gallon) of super gasoline amid dwindling supplies on Easter Monday.
1 gal(US Liq) = 3.78541 L
1 € (euro) = $ 1.47 (current exchange rate today)
And you think you're paying too much, eh?

Actually, it's about $55 per gallon…

What's interesting is Esso knew in advance supplies for super would be limited so they had a plan in place to jack up the price once supplies reached a critical level. If it was an innocent (they say deliberate) and honest attempt, serving the public's common interest, to dissuade motorists from purchasing a limited resource based on unforeseen shortages for a long holiday week-end...Friday to Monday...then one has to wonder what the price would be if they were anticipating long term shortages based on limited deliveries at the port? And now that a precedent has been set, I wonder how long before the same tactic is employed in the US.
Caveat Emptor.
