The South Carolina House of Representatives voted to remove the Confederate Battle Flag from state grounds. This follows a similar South Carolina Senate vote on Monday. The final bill will go to Governor Haley. The flag could come down as early as Friday. The removal of the flag came in response to discontent about the Confederate flag displayed on government grounds that rekindled after the deaths of nine black Christians in Charleston at the hands of a White Supremacist.
Governor Nikki Haley called for the removal of the flag along with the state's two U.S. Senators. State Representative Jenny Horne, a descendent of Jefferson Davis, made an impassioned plea in the House that the flag of hate come down from State grounds. The flag will be display in a building that houses Confederate relics.
This is a small step in creating a new day in South Carolina.

Off topic but interesting:
The 14th amendment giving citizenship to ex-slaves was ratified on this date in 1868.

"Governor Nikki Haley called for the removal of the flag along with the state's two U.S. Senators." - yes, removing the 2 Senators is a long overdue step.

The removal of the two Senators is long overdue. Graham may be booted for flipping on the flag. Tim Scott appears to be more what nephrologists call solvent drag. Scott was dragged into flag support by events around him(Haley) rather than any action he initiated. Scott may survive.
Grammar was not my friend in that sentence.
The flag will still go to the relic room.

To better explain my comment:
But if South Carolina needs a new Senator, maybe this one will do:

This is a big deal to me anyway.
There is so much more to be done?
Yeah, there is always so much more to be done.
But damn, this is a big deal to me.

The vote in South Carolina was amazing.
Unfortunately, the Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives wanted Confederate flags to be displayed permanently on National Park grounds.

The Democrats countered with a proposal that all flags with Confederate symbols be removed from U.S. Capitol grounds. Republicans objected. The dispute about the Confederate flag led to tabling of the funding bill for the Department of Interior and EPA because an amendment allowing Confederate flags to remain in National Parks permanently.

An amazing piece of history is that Robert E. Lee said that the Confederate flag should be furled. Lee pledged allegiance to the U.S. Constitution. He did not want the Confedrate flag draped on his coffin. He did not want anyone wearing a Confederate uniform at his funeral There is no reason to continue to cling to the Confederacy.
Rep James Clyburn (D-SC) gave this history lesson to his Congressional colleagues today. The KKK will have to bring their own treason rags to Coumbia South carolina.

Thx
I will have to watch that movie
My weekend movie this week will be "Being There" with Peter Sellers another movie I overlooked. From what I am told, it may help me understand why an idiot like Donald Trump has followers who feel that he has the wisdom required for the Presidency.

Make it a double feature!! "O' Brother Where Art Thou" is one fabulous movie. Clooney has never been funnier ... or stupider ... but in a good way. The cast has great chemistry and the writing is sublime.
