WASHINGTON — Ever since he seized power in a military takeover nearly four years ago, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has been barred from the White House. But President Trump made clear on Monday that the period of ostracism was over as he hosted Mr. Sisi and pledged unstinting support for the autocratic ruler.
“We agree on so many things,” Mr. Trump said as he sat beside Mr. Sisi in the Oval Office. “I just want to let everybody know in case there was any doubt that we are very much behind President el-Sisi. He’s done a fantastic job in a very difficult situation. We are very much behind Egypt and the people of Egypt. The United States has, believe me, backing, and we have strong backing.”
In that one moment, Mr. Trump underscored a fundamental shift in American foreign policy since he took office. While his predecessors considered authoritarians like Mr. Sisi to be distasteful and at times shied away from them, Mr. Trump signaled that he sees international relations through a transactional lens. If Egypt can be a partner in the battle against international terrorism, then in Mr. Trump’s calculation, that is more important to the United States than concerns over its brutal suppression of domestic dissent.
Nothing could have made Mr. Sisi happier [....]

Up next: China.
Interesting to see an April 3 WaPo op-ed where anti-Trump Republican Dan Drezner freaks out in a long rant on topic, with fear and loathing, thinking about about what may happen

I have been lighting candles to Saint Hunter (Thompson--canonized by my church, ymmv....) entreating his intervention to the effect that among the "unmasking" events currently at issue there may be a few--a precious few--wherein Xi (who can pick that fat fraud's pocket from across the room) expresses his candid appraisal of "U.S. Head of State #1".
I won't even demand that the material be disseminated, nor even (o painful sacrifice!) that I see it, so long as Trump reads it.

Keep praying, no doubt it's going to be a bumpy ride. I doubt we'll know a thing right off unless some Mar-a-Lago club member takes photos again! (I'm basing that on: Angela didn't really spill any good beans. All the other guys run a tighter ship than the yuge sieve of competing leakers we've got, much less China?)

Jolly Roger you be right on Xi! Take a look @ this WaPo headline, hah:
China issues stern warning to U.S., North Korea over their growing tensions
Is such a brilliant play: I'm grabbing the #1 title and making you the immature child that needs instruction.
