MURDER, POLITICS, AND THE END OF THE JAZZ AGE by Michael Wolraich Order today at Barnes & Noble / Amazon / Books-A-Million / Bookshop |
The government of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has ordered a team from the United Nations Commission for Human Rights to leave. More than 300 people were killed during the recent political unrest..... the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights called on the government to stop the persecution of protestors and disarm masked gangs who it alleges are responsible for killings and arbitrary detentions. It also described the torture and use of excessive force using interviews with victims and local human rights groups.

makes me wonder how the far lefty "socialism cannot fail, it is always beautiful" contingent can continue to spin this now that the U.N. can no longer be sanely claimed as an arm of the U.S. capitalist imperialist hegemon. Here's the thing: even if that was happening all along, that the U.S. deep state had been in cahoots with the U.N., and all those nasty NGO's too, how come they missed it until now? Still means they weren't accurate sources to read!

Letter from Nicaragua “Fake News” and Unrest in Nicaragua
Suppressing an uprising, President Daniel Ortega borrows tactics from autocrats abroad.
By Jon Lee Anderson @ NewYorker.com for Sept. 3 print issue, available online now and there is also an audio version
It's a major long-form article, I've printed it out to read, takes 17 pages to print; an excerpt for a taste:

"a husband-and-wife co-Presidency that is unique in the modern world."
A Daddy-daughter-son-in-law co-Presidency is also unique in the world.
Venezuela, and Nicaragua. Not "socialist", both rule by a leadership cult authoritarian, seem familiar...?
1. Run on upending the system for your "forgotten" uneducated base.
2. Lie constantly. Deny the truth when it undercuts your policies.
3. Pack the courts.
4. Loot the country, run up deficits.
5. Threaten (kill) or lock up political opponents.
6. Encourage violence against opposition demonstrators.
7. Hold rallies of adoring supporters, and plan military parades.
8. Load your administration with lying grifters whose only concern is lining their pockets
9. Blame all bad news or setbacks on foreigners, the opposition or wild conspiracy theories.
10. Violate the constitution, change it if possible to increase your power.
11. Ensure your Party is full of sycophantic toadies.
12. When possible, bailout your supporters with government money.
13. Purge the government of capable people who question your policies or actions.

So you're falling for the narrative created by Jon Lee Anderson and other toadies of the U.S. regime? They said they were socialist so one must stick with them, solidarity forever, the people will eventually solve any problems caused by the boot on their neck of meddling hegemon. Never forget 1953! Avenge Mosaddegh! Remember Allende! Impeach Nixon! Oh and The New Yorker is publisher of fake news to support the devil Israel.
More seriously: very nice list!
