Beating Romney will be the easy part for Barack Obama

Almost exactly two years ago, corporate whistleblower Sam Antar told me this:

“With all the stimulus money going out, the Republicans will eventually find some corruption charge (on Obama) they think will stick,” said Antar. “It’s just a matter of time.”

Here’s what Rep. Darrell Issa (R) – the chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform – had to say just recently:

“We are busy in Washington with a corrupt government, with a government that I said more than a year ago was perhaps — because of the money, because of the amount of TARP and stimulus funds — was going to be the most corrupt government in history, and it is proving to be that, just exactly that.”

I have long believed that Obama will win re-election. But, more and more, I think the GOP will be fine with that. Winning the Senate and keeping the House will be enough. Especially if those legislative bodies spend the majority of their time obstructing legislation and conducting impeachment hearings against Obama.

    I wrote this last year:

I have been calling Darrel Issa a liar and a cheat and a felon for sometime now and the NYT is catching up with all of these allegations.

The proximity of the two offices reflects Mr. Issa’s dual careers, a meshing of public and private interests rarely seen in government.

Most wealthy members of Congress push their financial activities to the side, with many even placing them in blind trusts to avoid appearances of conflicts of interest. But Mr. Issa (pronounced EYE-suh), one of Washington’s richest lawmakers, may be alone in the hands-on role he has played in overseeing a remarkable array of outside business interests since his election in 2000.

Even as he has built a reputation as a forceful Congressional advocate for business, Mr. Issa has bought up office buildings, split a holding company into separate multimillion-dollar businesses, started an insurance company, traded hundreds of millions of dollars in securities, invested in overseas funds, retained an interest in his auto-alarm company and built up a family foundation.

As his private wealth and public power have grown, so too has the overlap between his private and business lives, with at least some of the congressman’s government actions helping to make a rich man even richer and raising the potential for conflicts. …

But perhaps his clearest statement on the issue came last year amid Toyota’s recalls of millions of automobiles with dangerous acceleration problems. Then, Mr. Issa brushed aside suggestions that his electronics company’s role as a major supplier of alarms to Toyota made him go easy on the automaker as he led an investigation into the recalls.

    .

According to his filings, Mr. Issa’s minimum wealth doubled in the last year, and he appears flush with cash: he bought dozens of mutual funds in 2010 worth as much as $80 million, managed by Wall Street powerhouses, without selling off any securities.

    .

In one 2008 sale, months before the stock market crashed, his family foundation earned $357,000 on an initial investment of less than $19,000 — a return of nearly 1,900 percent in just seven months, the foundation reported to the Internal Revenue Service. It reported acquiring the security, then known as AIM International Small Company Fund, at a cost basis representing a tiny fraction of the market value.

At a House hearing in 2008 on a much-debated proposal to merge the satellite radio companies Sirius and XM, despite objections on competitive grounds, Mr. Issa praised the “viable combined market” the deal would create as he questioned Sirius’s chief executive and talked of opportunities for expansion.

What Mr. Issa did not mention was that his electronics firm was then in a lucrative partnership with Sirius to distribute its audio products.

As with Merrill Lynch, Mr. Issa is keenly interested in Goldman’s performance.

A few weeks before opening his inquiry into the Goldman lawsuit, in fact, he bought another large batch of shares in one of the firm’s high-yield mutual funds, records show. By the end of the year, his stake in Goldman’s fund was worth as much as $25 million.

Take some time and really read this NYT article. Because history tells us that when the New York Times closes in on some politician; that politician finds himself in some trouble.

Now there is good news here even before any investigations begin.

Darrel Issa has promised that he would initiate 100,000 investigations into the most corrupt Administration in the history of man.

The Republican congressman who is taking over responsibility for congressional oversight called President Obama's administration "one of the most corrupt administrations" on Sunday and predicted that the investigations he is planning over the next two years could result in about $200 billion in savings for U.S. taxpayers. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=102x4680653

    And at every single turn some 8 months into his powerful position;

    nothing is revealed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5s6zr64LHg

    http://www.rollcall.com/issues/56_127/issa_promised_tough_oversight_isnt-205893-1.html

I will say it again. Issa is one of the biggest crooks to ever sit in Congress.

Darn it.  I've already seen Clinton's second term.  But I buy your theory that they spend 4 years talking muck of all varieties and then run one of their big name candidates on the a "change" platform.  Add a third party candidate (Bloomberg should be bored enough by 2016) and they get the presidency back just in time to start some more wars with highly experienced Iraq and Afghanistan vets.

    You are missing the point!

The real aim is to nuke Iran and Syria for sure but their primary aim is a missile base on the dark side of the moon.

Oh yeah, and we will all have to sign an affirmation before we get on the Web--under God for chrissakes!

I don't understand the fascination with Sam Antar.

They were already talking about impeaching Obama before he took office - the game plan (almost) worked with Clinton, worked with Schwarzennegger's predecessor, why not with Obama? Start with the "Kenya birth" and work down. This is standard GOP playbook.

"I predict in next week's football game, at some point the Quarterback will attempt to throw down field." You can quote me.

WE SHOULD HAVE PRIMARIED OBAMA WHEN WE HAD A CHANCE !!!!!!

Many people warned the democrats, dump the worthless pandering Obama. he's not worth defending.

Obama will not only lose his own reelection,  but he's helped seal the fate of those in the House and Senate.

Look at how Obama, is pandering for the students votes;  fearing he may not have the excitement of the base, in order to be reelected.

Now he panders to the same kids, whose folks lost their asset class; the homes that were  leveraged to finance the kids college education.

Obama: "Kids don't look at what I did, just listen to my phony words."

Obama is mentally corrupt; a college education is not anywheres the value of having a roof overhead.

Obama allowed the real estate sector. an industry that provided 19% of the Nations GDP to sink.

Our homes were our bank; and Obama failed to protect us homeowners .

Obama is still trying to help his banker friends, who fear student loan defaults, will disrupt Obama' banker friends prosperity.

Obama didn't give a crap about the homeowners and he really doesn't give a crap about the kids, who may have lived in those homes; he only wants to make sure his banker friends are not hurt, when the defaults hit the fan.

Obama pretending to care; may even bring him votes, from those with student loans.

When in reality, it's the bankers he's more interested in protecting.

I get the disillusionment with Obama, but he's absolutely right about the value of a college education. I recently got downsized, but I was able to almost immediately find a job (at a higher salary) because of my education. People can take your house from you, but it's much harder to take your education.

    The relevant point is this.

The government should and was also commanded to protect the citizens ,it was entrusted to defend. In order to form a more perfect Union.

To protect life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

To protect against the depravation of the essentials of the real life.

    Food, water shelter

College education is fine and dandy, but the majority of humanity has needs and college education will never replace the essentials.

Have those, who are now set for life, self- made because they have degrees, now so blind to the reality, of the suffering?

A typical republican attitude "I've got mine, now get yours"

OBAMA as our leader FAILED our Nations quest to be that more perfect union.

Who didnt know; that when you take the peoples homes and cast them out into the street. that we as a Nation have failed the least amongst us.

So much for the grand design of justice for all, and now replaced by; whats good for monied interests, trumps all other things.

I hope your college degree included a course in Mandarin?

Ha! You can have a house *AND* an education. But if you got cancer, well, you're living high on the hog.

What do you give to the man who has everything? A CATScan and a blood cell transfusion. Chemo if that don't work.

    A) For your information, my (first) college degree included 3 courses in Mandarin. (Seriously)

    B) Secondly, my attitude is not, "I've got mine, now get yours". It's more similar to "here's how I got mine, maybe you can do the same". I'm not suggesting an education is the only way, but having an education sure has made my life easier.

None of this has anything to do with Obama, other than him being right (and he's not alone) in stressing the importance of education.

I did manage to watch him on Fallon (I don't usually watch the show), and I did find his tap-dancing around his implication that science/technology was more important than the liberal arts. smiley

"here's how I got mine, maybe you can do the same".

    A BIG maybe.

Without us peasant class, us unwashed, us uneducated all your degrees amount to worthless paper.

Sure we need some engineers to design our roads and bridges, but how many do we need? how many will get jobs in the related industries the degree covers?

Obama: "Everyone go to college, while we allow our blue collar jobs to move overseas?" Blue collar workers depending on good paying jobs, so we can afford to go to college

Microsoft go ahead and hire foreign college grads, we know you need to watch your bottom line.

Obama pits the people, one against another for his own selfish purpose; college elites against the blue collar worker,

Obama: "Dont remain and ignorant worker and broke, go to college and become a smarter broke dick

If you have a college degree your probably more apt to vote republican. so you can keep more of what you earn; besides you have a huge debt to pay, you should be allowed to keep more.

With that in mind, why should the college grads help the bottom feeders, the bottom feeders should have gone to college, so they deserve less than the ones that to college.

money buys you privilege and it buys your vote.

Obama is republican- lite; defending the college grad, screwing  the lowly homeowner.

College grads who wont go to far left in the future. College grads to maintain the status quo, College grads who wont bite the hand that feeds them.

"Hey you! college grad, you really don't want to reign in corporate abuse,  do yah?

The same corporations that are looking for college grads, just like you?

The bottom feeders; as opposed to the college educated,  can compete against low wage overseas foreign workers AND compete against low wage earning foreign workers, allowed by a pandering president and his justice department; who turned a blind eye, towards those sneaking across our southern border.

A foreign invasion allowed to continue unabated, with the intended results,; undercut the American blue collar workers who would have liked to have sent their kids to college, if only wages would have kept up.

    You should recall the lesson

"I was not a blue collar worker, so I did nothing to protect them. Now they are coming for me, the college grad and now there is no one to protect me

Obamas politics is divisive, for the sole purpose of keeping moneyied interests in power.

Pit blue collar against, the so called deserving college grad.

Sound like something you want to support VA. Obama speaking your language?

College, college, college, sounds better than underwater mortgages and foreclosure.

Obama has lost the votes of those, who've lost their homes or have seen values plummet.

Obama needs the promise, of a brighter tomorrow, because thats what college grads want to hear.

Obama pandering, with visions of hope,  trying to make people forget the reality. Get a college degree a better tomorrow.   REALLY !!!!!

Obamas leadership failed the working class, he can only make promises, that may or may not come true.

If history provides a lesson, Obamas so full of himself and his college degree. and his college educated advisors, who brought us to this disaster.

Way to go smarties; you college grads.

While Obama blames the uneducated for the mess.

    Obama the Arrogant pr

    Dude. It's not either/or. It's not black/white. It's not good/evil. Don't oversimplify.

Obama explicitly said that he wasn't talking about just a four year degree. He explicitly included trade schools. Education is a good thing, both collectively and individually. Obama's point was that it shouldn't be a choice between a house and an education. Education should be affordable. Everyone can benefit from having a better education, and society benefits as well.

As for your Microsoft hiring foreign grads, that's exactly the reason we need better educated students.

Defending the college grad is not "Republican-lite". Republicans loathe that fancy education. Do Republicans speak your language?

That rhetorical flourish of a question is not meant to be taken literally. It's meant to illustrate how ridiculous your accusation towards me was. We're not natural enemies. I don't know why you have to keep wording your replies to me as if we were. We both want what is best for the working person, even if we disagree on how to accomplish that.

    You're taking it too personally.

Good for you, that you have an ace, called a degree.

Obamas ready to bail out, over indebted students,  but ignored the plight of the less fortunate, who owned homes and have lost billions.

Now that Obama realizes, he's lost a lot of his earlier voters...because the man turned out to be a wolf in sheep clothing; now when he needs to find a base to get out and help get him reelected.

Obama has found, his promising rhetoric wont work with the working class; that watched Obama stand by while many lives were dashed, their hopes and aspirations for a better retirement lost (STOLEN BY WALL STREET)

Obama knows his BS wont work with us older voters, so he travels around the country politicking to the younger naive students, telling them how Obama feels your pain. MORE BS  selling it to students in hopes he can get them to trun out and reelect Obama.

Reward Obama for sticking it to the working class homeowner? The ones he's already kicked under the bus.

Just as was pointed out tonight on NBC

Obama, flying around the country on the taxpayer dollar to promote lower costs to college grads, is Obama desperation to fire up some base of support.

Watch out kids, Obamas not to be trusted. he will not deliver as promised.

As for the remark "Republicans loathe that fancy education."

Republicans dont loathe fancy education, they only loathe it when its open to all, but the plutocracy and their children.

WE DON'T NEED NO MORE OF OBAMAS DEGREED IDIOCY; BRING BACK THE BLUE COLLAR JOBS.

The Republican base loathe that fancy education that brings such ideas as evolution, climate science, and the like. However, you're right that many of the Republican elite are more than happy to provide it for their own children because they know it provides a competitive edge.

As for "rewarding Obama", I suggest that you're thinking about it the wrong way. Trying to punish Obama by electing Romney would be like trying to punish an unfair teacher by failing his/her class. Punishment and retribution is a little too Old Testament for me. I want to think about what's best for our country, especially the working class. Electing Romney would not help the working class. Let's focus on solutions, not on who to blame for our problems.

    The solution?

    Open your eyes and ears

Money and the taking of bribes, corrupted Democracy.

Quit electing to office, the only candidates the plutocracy and their MSM lackeys, will allow.
