The Justice Department "white paper" purporting to authorize Obama's power to extrajudicially execute US citizens was leaked three weeks ago. Since then, the administration - including the president himself and his nominee to lead the CIA, John Brennan - has been repeatedly asked whether this authority extends to US soil, i.e., whether the president has the right to execute US citizens on US soil without charges. In each instance, they have refused to answer.

So as to not crowd out the "In the News" column I will add this related article link here. It is a letter from the VETERAN INTELLIGENCE PROFESSIONALS FOR SANITY, STEERING GROUP to Dianne Feinstein asking for a better vetting of John Brennan .

Remember Colin Powell's testimony and slide show , about mobile units of weapons of mass destruction? We did go to war though.
Did they find the WMD?
I am reminded of the Boy who cried wolf.

Greenwald? You have to be fully in the grasp of unfounded and baseless fear to think that Obama is going to start drone strikes in the US, when the GOP, who were responsible for sending thousands of Americans to their deaths in Iraq, have spent months (or is it years?) investigating the death of ONE American due to Fast and Furious, and months of accusations, charges, investigations, days of testimony and bellicose outrage at the 4 Americans killed by terrorists in Libya.

I picture you saying Greenwald like that ex Detroit Lions coach said play offs.
"Play offs. PLAY OFFS? Did you say PLAY OFFS"? You gotta be kiddin'. PLAY OFFS?"
Greenwald lays out his case well. And, drones are not the only way to extra-judicially kill, they are just what are publicly in use, the use of which is establishing the power for Star-Chamber death penalties, even Republicans are imaginative enough to realize that. Have you noticed that drone strikes are the only thing that Republicans like about Obama? And as far as the things that the Republicans are screaming about now, do you suppose that they will be consistent when their team is running the show? Republicans consistent? Republicans? CONSISTENT? REPUBLICANS? You gotta be kidding.

Republicans don't 'like' anything about Obama. They would prefer the next underwear bomber sent by a guy like the former 'Droned' Mr. Awaki succeeds in killing a lot of Americans so they can investigate it for 4 years and win back the Presidency (and then 'run the show' like they did from 2001 -2008).

It isn't just Republicans; it's Independents and Progressive Democrats who don't like "Obama the sell out."

Democrats cowered and were also responsible when they gave BUSH, the authorization to use military force.

Well, a minority of Democrats in the House voted for the invasion of Iraq, and while more than half of the Democrats in the Senate voted for it, a lot more Democrats than Republicans voted no.

Thank you for the breakdown, but in the end, the votes were tallied and we went to war.
Just as long as it wasn't those who voted for it, had to go; WAR was acceptable.
Remember the movie Die Hard, where the two FBI agents (Johnson's) were discussing casualties at the tower and the one said to the other, "he could live with those number of deaths"

Here is a short article about the documentary, "The Gatekeepers". There is a trailer and the opinion expressed by the reviewer that each of the principles of the movie says things which would disqualify them for Congressional approval in the U.S.A. No doubt an allusion to Hagel's confirmation fight. There are six examples.
