The House Republican leadership will not allow the cameras to be on, so C-Span is covering the Facebook live feed Rep. O'Rourke of TX is providing (via periscope). Many Senators have joined the fight as well ...#NoBillNoBreak
Edit: What's happened over the last four hours

Thx
This is great. Do you know if CSPAN has been shut down before?

The House is technically in recess - though votes were scheduled as of 3PM - during which the cameras are off. Ryan could change that if he chose,
just as they finally turned the microphone on.by barefooted on Wed, 06/22/2016 - 11:38pm
This is amazing. Democracy in action. Couldn't be prouder of the Democrats right now.
Fired up!

I've spent much of the day/evening watching Democrats finally do some real, live attention-getting, so I'm good!
by barefooted on Wed, 06/22/2016 - 11:41pm
I've been wondering why no one was dragged screaming off the House floor in either 2003 or 2008-9. Glad it's a good cause.

Glen Greenwald lovers, his take on Democrats and the gun issue:
Driftglass on Glen Greenwald:
by NCD on Thu, 06/23/2016 - 10:01am
I sometimes disagree with Glenzilla but he hit the nail on the head with this attack on this democrat election year stunt and their demand for more police-state stripping people of due process that has no effect on gun violence just as background checks has had no measurable effect on GV. Mateen wasn't on this secret list so he wouldn't have been deterred by these new extreme restrictions.
Greenwald is a journalist with his own forum so Driftglass' comment seems to be sour grapes, who the hell is Driftglass?
by Peter (not verified) on Thu, 06/23/2016 - 10:39am
hmmm, I agree with Peter? the no-fly list has been a black hidey hole where people can never get off because they're not allowed to know why they're there in the first place, even if it's a misspelling. (Buttle? Tuttle? ironic Glenn's writing from Brazil?)
Yeah, our monitoring of Muslim populations, looking for suspicious characters at falafel joints, has been largely bizarre and intrusive. And it's not like I'm looking for catching suspicious characters buying AR-15's for domestic use - I'm concerned about *ANYONE* buying AR-15's for whatever freak purpose they have in mind. Yeah, blowing shit up is great - I worked for a short time in munitions and incindiary devices - but it seems short of a Constitutional right to me.
Close down the gun shops and ad hoc sales - don't increase the surveillance. Ferguson and Chicago et al wouldn't be helped at all by no-fly-no-buy, nor would Sandy Hook, etc.
by PeraclesPlease on Thu, 06/23/2016 - 11:11am
The attempt to pass the bill failed yesterday. 46 Republicans and 11 Democrats supported the surveillance bill. There are 44 Democrats in the Senate, so 75% fought against the bill. 46 of the 54 or 85% of Republicans supporter the bill
