Pardon Eric Snowden too while at it.
Comments
Yes, pardon Snowden while he is at it. I believe that Manning's plea, as described, is completely justified. I know that I would have given in to torture much quicker and bowed as low as necessary to get relief. But, it is a crying shame that the fact that the action for which he is being held [as a political prisoner, IMO] were completely honorable and obeyed a higher law than the one which cages him. I do not mean 'higher law' only in some abstract way, though I believe that to be true too, there are also laws written by our government, also laws of war, also laws laid out by the uniform code of military justice, etc, etc, that completely exonerate him. I wish that that could be the argument that would set him free to live his life in peace in an appreciative country.
In the what-do-we-do-now realm, but related to this subject I believe, is this essay. Its conclusion reminds me of a conversation years ago in which a friend and I agreed that if the Democratic position came around to being right-to-lifers that the Republicans would change to support right for a woman to choose.

She would have to go into the Witness Protection Program in the current environment. Snowden has more resources but would need protection too. I hope he does it even if only to give the finger to all the faux patriots out there.

"After the Election: Don't Panic, INSULT!!!"
the fundamentally undemocratic U.S. two-party system - heh heh heh. whatevers.
The choice was so dismal that over forty three percent of the voters could not bring themselves to go to the polls. - eh, that's either just a hair off last time (58.6% to 57.9%) or even an improvement, depending on whose stats. And let's just ignore say Comey, the demoralizing/shit disturbing steady drip of Wikileaks, closing down polling places, strict voter ID... yep, them black people shore be too lazy to travel 100 miles to vote....
Everyone hated one or the other of the candidates, or both. - oh fuck me for the billionth time, no, I was quite happy as were likely many 10's of millions of Hillary voters. Just because the author is disgruntled doesn't make her the spokeswoman for a planet
those who believed the Clinton campaign claim that Trump represents nothing but various ways to “hate” other people: sexism, racism, homophobia, xenophobia, etc. - eh no, he also represents a way for Republicans to control the system and consolidate power for 4-8 years, with the same incompetence that brought us Iraq & 2008 crash except Bush didn't have a long track record of stealing and abusing employees
The Clinton campaign was based the “identity politics” - bull. fucking. shit. it was based on being prepared - remember the debates? it was based on policy - remember those long boring pieces of paper this woman couldn't be bothered to read?
Trump’s reputation as a racist fiend is largely based on excessive remarks - like duh. Except for his history of throwing black people out of housing.
his outrageous promise to build a wall to keep Mexican immigrants from entering the country – outrageous, in fact, because the wall already exists! Except that it is called a “fence” - except he promised to make it higher, and just reiterated his promise to expel 2-3 million Mexicans.
the one positive element in Trump’s campaign: the desire to make business rather than war with Russia - the lady's simply cuckoo. Has she bothered to look at a picture of Aleppo or Chechnya 18 years ago? Is she simply unaware of the level of corruption in Russian business circles?
Lulu, I still don't understand why you bring this crap around here.

Leapin' Leppos, PP. You sound a tad overwrought. The election is over. No need for defensive knee spasms every time you hear anything less than complementary about Hillary and/or her gang. She lost, that is some evidence of mistakes made that cost needed votes. You thought she would win. That is evidence that even you can make some misjudgments. Did you disagree with any of the many harsh judgments made by the author of Trump? Because we really do have to go from where we are at and where we are at is actually at the beginning of a Trump presidency, it seems like giving some thought to "how" we go forward productively as possible is worth the effort. Did you even notice that that is the essential point of the piece.
Para by para re your hollow comment. What is your real point with arguing the numbers? Are you proud of the turnout that Hillary inspired? I read the author's opinion as being that she did not inspire enough. Next, "oh fuck me for the billionth time". That outburst because Johnstone said everyone hated one candidate or the other. Are you exploding because you believe that that statement is essentially wrong? For what percentage of the voters would you guess that that statement is false? How about you? Are you secretly kind of fond of Trump? How about a micro-group, the participants here at Dag, do their expressed feelings disprove that statement?
How much of the two campaigns do you think were based on identity politics? I think a very big part and not by only one candidate.
"Trump’s reputation as a racist fiend is largely based on excessive remarks - like duh." Are you so desperate to react that you make an issue of that statement? Did he make a million racist remarks? Duh
Skipping the giant fence/wall issue. That paragraph must have somehow been way more significant to you than to me.
"... the one positive element in Trump’s campaign: the desire to make business rather than war with Russia ..." You are so invested in your reactionary rant that you call the woman crazy for saying that the only thing good about Trumps campaign is that he said cooperation and trade with Russia is better than war with Russia. Take a fucking pill or something. There is expert opinion, I can provide about a billion links, that say that war with Russia would be very bad. You disagree because Russia has some corrupt rich fucks. Somewhat selective with your purity aren't you?
I can't answer your final question but I have given it some thought.

You're gonna double down, eh? Okay, to answer 1: here's 1 of the "2 most hated candidates in history":
Now how the fuck do you think she hung from 30% unfavorable in 2012 leaving State to 36% in 2015 and then jumped to 57% unfavorable in a year? Because of some fucking emails?
" Everyone hated one or the other of the candidates, or both. " - BECAUSE THEY WERE TAUGHT TO HATE HER. EVERY MOTHERFUCKING DAY. Through lies, innuendo, spoken by candidates and their fans, the media, Julian Assange, Wikileaks, the FBI, etc. How tough is this? Killed the ambassador in Benghazi, wouldn't respond to calls for security, email server, laughed at rape victim, untrustworthy, hiding something in her transcripts, attacked Bill's sex victims, criminal/"lock her up", nasty woman, and so on and so on. 11 fucking Benghazi investigations and instead of "oh, we're sorry we abused you and wasted your precious time", it was "oh my oh my oh my, you had an email server, we must fret and piss and moan in the way we didn't when Cheney and those other fuckers ERASED 22 MILLION EMAILS WITHOUT ANYONE GIVING A SHIT." THEY ALL USED PRIVATE PHONES AND PRIVATE EMAILS SO THEY WOULD EVEN AVOID ANY FOIA. They didn't turn over a goddamn one. Wiped clean.
Why do I have to explain this to you? Why can't you see all by yourself that the URL you linked to is an utter piece of retread-it-all-over-again stinking pigshit? You aren't dumb, so what is it?
by PeraclesPlease on Tue, 11/15/2016 - 11:15am
So now you scream that there is a reason that what Johnstone said is true. Brilliant. The URL I linked to says clearly that Trump is a danger and that everything he tries to do in the wrong direction should be opposed. She then makes clear that she believes that there is a danger that 'everything Trump' will be opposed because of the hatred of Trump even if it is something good like moving away from war rather than towards it. If you disagree, that is one thing, but if you don't even understand, which I find hard to believe, then that is quite another.
by A Guy Called LULU on Tue, 11/15/2016 - 11:15am
Oh bullshit. She says "the choice was so dismal" - she doesn't say "they set her up to look so dismal" or anything of the sort. She's a Russia apologist and what not - she's a Russia apologist and a Trump apologist - no, it wasn't just " claim, with emphasis on how horrible Trump must be personally " - it was hundreds of documented cases by newspapers and others where he screwed tenants, employees, neighbors, antagonized & harassed women, et al. Clinton campaign based on "identity politics"? - well fuck her. I very well understand, thank you - she's an asshole piling on with shitty lying opinion that teaches me nothing except to respond like this. And you're the purveyor of this nonsense and won't even let it drop. Shame on you.

If Trump pulls out of NATO, could that spook the Europeans so much that they go to war if there is a Russian incursion? Could Trump be the on who encourages war with Russia?
