Steve King of Iowa asks, “White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization — how did that language become offensive?” I thought it became offensive when Nazis started using compulsory sterilization and “euthanasia” to impose a biomedical vision which imagined a racially and genetically pure and productive society. To put this another way, I think Trump wants to deny Puerto Rico any federal funding because he’s a racist. I think he wants a border wall because he’s a racist. So, it’s not hard for me to think he wants to eliminate funding for the Special Olympics because it’s consistent with a ideology based on genetic purity and fitness...

Whatever the thinking that was the origin, on this one he backtracked right quick, no doubt as advised by a pollster or similar politico. The way it's playing out is actually funny, he tried to throw her under the bus as if it were all her idea, and now she's trying to throw him under a bus:

Trump and the GOP are only serious about destroying the institutions, personnel, funding and mission of government, and looting the national Treasury with huge deficits caused by their tax cuts for the rich and rampant fraud and political patronage for donor businesses and corporations.

The sequelae of their actions will not noticed by his supporters until the sheet hits the fan, and then they will be told by the mega-millionaire propagandists of Fox News that the fault is with the 'Deep state' and Pelosi, Schumer and Obama.
