PROTECT OUR TROOPS FROM THE NEOCONS
When it comes to blatant hypocrisy - especially regarding their professed love for America - conservative Republicans tend to be a most rare and highly disingenuous breed. They live to wrap themselves in the flag as if it's their personal security blanket, yet, when it comes to their horrendous assault on the nation and the American people - like shutting down the government, refusing to support our vets (other than in the most weak and disingenuous Aphorisms), continually holding the American people hostage for the benefit of their wealthy cronies, and their blatant obstruction of any and every attempt to provide economic relief for the people - they're prepared to engage in the most ridiculously illogical contortions to try justify their unconscionable behavior. They treat the American people like we're stupid. They'll slap us in the face, and then lecture us for causing them to injure their hand.
.
Their latest affront to our common sense is in an article written by Deroy Murdock for the National Review. Mr. Murdock say's the following:
.
"Cotton got 46 other senators to sign this letter in ink. “Because it was an open letter, it was not sent to Tehran but rather posted on Senator Cotton’s website and social-media accounts,” Caroline Rabbitt, Senator Cotton’s communications director, explained to me last week. Cotton & Co. never even dropped an envelope in the mail . . . Agree or disagree with that point, here is the inescapable truth: Tom Cotton and his Senate colleagues never contacted anyone in Iran. That fact alone should turn the Left’s fluttering “GOP = Treason” banner into a wet rag.(http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/415456/cotton-letter-was-not-sent-a...)
.
Could this gentleman possibly be serious!!!? Does he REALLY think that the American people are so stupid that we'd buy into as weak an attempt of trying to justify a treasonous act as that - that even though, in this age of mass communication, the Republican 47 posted their treasonous attempt to sabotage an ongoing United States negotiation on an official United States Senate.Gov website that these 47 traitors should be vindicated because they didn't buy a stamp!!!? This simply a variation on one of the weak defenses that's already bombed: "Oh, the letter was only addressed improperly. No big deal. My bad." The defense is so disingenuously asinine that implicit within it is the admission that if the letter WOULD have been sent by mail, it indeed WOULD have been treason.
.
If there hadn't been such an explosive outrage over their treasonous stupidity these 47 senators would be struttin' around like peacocks. For the GOP, life is not about what's proper, it's about what you can get away with - and we DEFINITELY shouldn't let them get away with this, because the next time they'll do something worse. These people are without limits, so they're constantly testing ours.
.
So if Mr. Murdock truly believes that his latest concoction of a defense is gonna fly, we need to send the DEA over there to the National Review because they've GOT to be on drugs. perhaps someone over there has gotten into Rush Limbaugh's Oxycontin stash.
.
The Republican 47 didn't avoid sending their treason letter directly to Tehran because they were trying to observe any sort of protocol, or trying to avoid violating the law - they posted it on an official United States Senate.Gov website, and on official United States Senate stationary. In addition, the title makes it abundantly clear who it was addressed to: "AN OPEN LETTER TO THE LEADERS OF THE ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN." These 47 Republican senators posted their treasonous and ill-conceived letter online for two reasons - first, they wanted to embarrass President Obama; and secondly, in their stupidity, and bad judgment, they thought they were going to get a slap on the back and that the American people were going to give them brownie points for it.
.
The action of these 47 Republican senators was not only stupid and ill-conceived, but also treasonous and threatens world security. It's a perfect example of why for the past one hundred years, EVERY time the Republican Party is trusted with any kind of power they drag America down a rat hole. The only exception to that was President Eisenhower's administration, who was a Republican in name only (a Rino), and as his very last act of office, warned America about the Military/Complex, and neocons just like these.
.
Tom Cotton, the freshman senator who was the initiator of this letter is the protege of Bill Kristol, one of the primary neocons who led us into the Iraq disaster, so either the 46 senior senators who allowed themselves to follow in lockstep behind this wet-behind-the-ears kid - who's only been in the senate a matter of DAYS - have incredibly bad judgment, or there has to be a malevolent agenda afoot. So there needs to be a thorough congressional investigation into this matter. We owe it to America, we owe it to the world, and we owe it to our troops.

This essay sends me into a number of issues that I am incapable of fathering.
Again, one cannot charge 47 members of the Senate with treachery. You cannot do that.
As I understand it, there were other signatories on this document that were not senators.
Peter Cottontail claims nothing was 'sent' to Iran, he just 'blogged it'.
I just got back from an article at NYT.

Was General Petraeus a traitor?
This giant evidently gave classified info to his journalist mistress.
Is Snowden a traitor? He gave information to journalists and people are calling for his execution? If this guy ever comes back to the good ole US of A, I really feel that he aint gonna get a light sentence like Giant Petraeus just received.
On the political side, did not repubs call actions of some dems, treachery
In reality, We have one Commander in Chief, according to the Constitution but the Senate is supposed to ratify actions of this Commander.
And yet, the President can somehow 'enter into negotiations' with foreign leaders without ratification.
Life is complicated.
Good discussion Eric.
Thank you.
I just read this at Daily News
http://sweetness-light.com/archive/ny-daily-news-cover-calls-republican-senators-traitors
Then I look at Daily News and Wiki says this Bloomberg is liberalish and another blog I cannot find claims Daily News is neocon.
I dunno, this seemed interesting to me.

Richard,
.
A large part of the law involves the perpetrator's intent, and in this case, the 47 senators clearly set out to undermine what the the President of the United States deemed was in the nation's best interest. The instigator of the Republican 47 treason letter was freshman Republican Senator Tom Cotton, who received a campaign donation of a million dollars from a pro-Israeli organization, helping to make the GOP the majority in the United States Senate. Thereafter, the Republican majority in congress invited Benjamin Netanyahu to speak before a joint session of congress to give a speech undermining the interest of the United States. Thus, these 47 Republican senators were acting against the interest of the United States government as AGENTS of a foreign power. That's TREASON! Period.

"As Benjamin Franklin put it in 1722, “Without freedom of thought, there can be no such thing as wisdom; and no such thing as public liberty, without freedom of speech.”
IMHO one of the lesson of Selma is about exclusion.
"You can't sit at the counter, you cant participate in the discussion because you disrupt the peace and tranquility.
The 47 Senators didn't yell fire so as to create a panic, they were elected by constituents to represent them in the struggle of preventing the Executive from becoming an authoritarian ruler.

Republicans invited a foreign leader to the floor of Congress to give the country advice on foreign policy that results in US troops fighting another war on foreign soil. The act was treason.

Did you not understand the article, especially this segment
If you had been in favor of war in 1914 , you'd have agreed with the Justices; position "How dare some Americans have an opposing view"
You'd have silenced any critic opposed to your position? Seeking to cause them harm by labeling them disruptive or treasonous in an attempt to stifle their thought and speech.
Be silent; you who don't agree with the President? The leader will tell you what is good and acceptable.
All the while they stifle dissent, then claiming their stifling actions are good for all?
Hypocrites!
by Resistance on Wed, 03/18/2015 - 1:25pm
No one is suppressing free speech. It is free speech to call Republicans who send letters to foreign governments and invite foreign leaders to give foreign policy instructions to the country. There are other countries involved in treaty discussions. The treasonous Republicans make the country look weak.
Senator Cotton says that his goal is regime change. If that is the case, Cotton is ready for the country to go to war. The same idiots who argued that Iraq would be any easy war are cheerleading this nonsense. I haven't silenced any Republican Congressman, I'm questioning their thought process. Why behave like a lemming and follow those nitwits.
The last Republican guided Middle East adventure made a shambles of Iraq, strengthened Iran, and created ISIS. Letting the Republicans lead us into another stupid military action through treason is intolerable.

It is the Obama administration that makes America look weak.
It was this administration, under Hillary Clinton watch; where it has been determined that 7 hours of inaction emboldened the enemies.

It amazes me how conservative are blind to everything but what they want to see. They can't see that the Republican 47 committed a blatant act of treason, but they're outraged over an Obama executive order, calling it an "Unprecedented Power Grab."

First, Resistance,
.
The United States Constitution gives the President of the United States SOLE power to negotiate agreements with foreign powers. Secondly, and as I pointed out above, A large part of the law involves the perpetrator's intent, and in this case, the 47 senators clearly set out to undermine what the the President of the United States deemed was in the nation's best interest. The instigator of the Republican 47 treason letter was freshman Republican Senator Tom Cotton, who received a campaign donation of a million dollars from a pro-Israeli organization, helping to make the GOP the majority in the United States Senate. These 47 are listening to their constituents,
I will try to present their side of the case, not that I really care, because I see these world events as proof, the end of our civilization is near and unless God intervenes, this current world of mankind is doomed
Prophecy "Unless those days were cut short no flesh would be saved
I believe these 47 Senators and their constituents,
believe, In light of the fact, that this President in his arrogance, has on occasion threatened and has resorted to using executive orders, to get his way over the objections of a majority of voters.and their representatives. As though he thought his authoritarian rule was the best thing for America.
Had this President been up for reelection, he too, would have suffered the same fate and defeat as did the Democrats, because of his showing a disregard for the will of the peoples Constitution, to safeguard America from despotic rulers.
Had Obama been defeated, their would be no Democratic One World Government negotiators.
The majority of the American peoples representatives, shouldn't have to sit idly by, while a confounded President, engages in reckless, foolhardy, rash, irresponsible, behavior, by even entertaining listening to those in power in Iran, who have shown a deep hatred for America (The Great Satan).
Now this President may be dumbstruck by all the upheaval in the world, Iraq, Libya ie and other hot spots that keep popping up, because of the perception of weakness under the leadership of this administration and desire to avoid war,
These 47 Senators and their constituents, know full well, our enemies are determined, to gain the advantage and would delight in pronouncing
"praise be to God; for by trickery, he has fooled and vanquished his opponents"
These 47 and their constituents know, sitting down with a known enemy of the US and expecting them to really allow verification, is foolishness, and only delays the ultimate answer to the question "What to do"?
Iran should never have started the nuclear program, for by doing so, the entire region is more threatened and more dangerous than it ever was.
Considering also the violence they are spreading in Iraq and other regions, it is clear of their expansionist desires and a Nuclear weapon brings them closer to their desired goal .
Their martyrs have no problem accepting death and war, it is the West who fears.
Although supporters of our authoritarian president are delighted; that doesn't mean the majority are going to sit idly by, while the idiots chant "Peace in our time"
Many in America don't have selective memory problems of who it is we are dealing with and have sitting at the table, discussing terms; only to have the President sell the BS to the American public of his achievement and with the help of his supporters, trying to convince everyone else "We need to accept this offer; it's our only hope"
The vast majority that put the Democrats out on their asses disagree.
Many Americans are not fooled by Trojan horse's.
While this President, is inciting others to DROP THE GATES into the city, the Presidents surrogates attacking those not fooled, as treasonous traitors.
It may be, to the the rest of the World seeking peace at all costs. is the best, thing even if the mislead, are people. who believe it better to accept the lie and get some respite and postpone the day of reckoning; it is not in Americas best interest, to be lulled into ignoring the grander scheme of our opponents and then having to save the World from an enemy who slyly acquired a Nuclear weapon.
Those 47 are doing what this weak president won't do, Sending a message to Iran,
We don't want War, but we will not be mislead; dismantle your nuclear program now or else; there is nothing to negotiate.
That is the message, these 47 Senators and their constituents are sending. Any agreement you make with this lame duck will not be acceptable.

Resistance,

What you've written above is a reflection of your religious zealotry, and the need to shove it down the rest of America's throat. We don't do things like that in America.
.
Religious bigotry: It's not that I hate everyone who doesn't look, think, and act like me - it's just that God does.
.
Most Americans don't subscribe to that point of view. So your religious beliefs are solely your own, and you sound EXACTLY like the flip-side of the people you hate. I warn Black people about the same thing - if you hate bigots, don't become one. If we start broad-brushing all White people as targets of hatred, that only serves to validate the very kind of bigotry that we claim is unjust.
.
For that reason, I pay very little attention to ANY kind of religious zealot, bigot, or ideologue, because such people tend to give their zealotry, bigotry, and ideology priority over truth and reason. Therefore, I look at Pat Robertson in the very same way that I look at radical Islamists. They're simply different branches off the same tree - the tree of ignorance.

Constitutional authority for foreign relations
.
Article II, Section 2, Clause 2 of the United States Constitution includes the 'Treaty Clause,' which empowers the President of the United States to propose and chiefly negotiate agreements, which must be confirmed by the Senate, between the United States and other countries, which become treaties between the United States and other countries after the advice and consent of a supermajority of the United States Senate.
[The President] shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur...
In United States v. Curtiss-Wright Export Corp., 299 U.S. 304 (1936), Justice Sutherland, writing for the Court, observed,
"[T]he President ALONE has the power to speak or listen as a representative of the nation. He makes treaties with the advice and consent of the Senate; but he alone negotiates. Into the field of negotiation the Senate cannot intrude; and Congress itself is powerless to invade it. As Marshall said in his great argument of March 7, 1800, in the House of Representatives, 'The President is the sole organ of the nation in its external relations, and its sole representative with foreign nations.'

I prefer the introduction; leading to a well thought out discourse, of how Marshall's words were misrepresented, allowing some with an ideological bias to usurp power from the people
In light of the fact this President is a lame duck and the Congress, especially the Senate, has no confidence in this President to faithfully execute the will of the people.
The direction this President was leading the Nation was soundly rejected by the voters 113th United States Congress.
The Curtis case allows an aberration and injustice to occur against those wanting this President, along with his party to be removed from power, so they can longer do more harm by leading the nation in the wrong direction.
Allowing a lame duck to continue a destructive agenda is not what the forefathers intended.
The people have spoken and this Presidents surrogates don't care to listen.
Did this president seek advise and consent to what the Newly elected leadership desires in treaty negotiations; or is it another shove it move, by sore losers?
Introduction
This is an example of overreach by the court, contrary to the intent of the Framers.
Allowed to become law, because their was no vigorous debate over other issues, other than the limited issues brought before the court in the Curtis case.
The courts can not rule on issues not presented or contended.
No one of the expert litigants was prepared to defend against Sutherlands bias and attempt to interfere with the Legislative Branches oversight.
by Resistance on Fri, 03/20/2015 - 10:19pm
If we allow the Curtis case to prevail, it will lead to the People who granted power to the legislative branch having no power to protect themselves with procedures for checks and balances.
Case law
The people are losing more control of self determination, case by case.
The scoundrels will twist the laws and eventually the laws will be skewed against the people. and against their interests.
BTW
Something to consider
Is Fast Track Authority given to the President, by the legislative branch, a power not authorized or granted by the People?
by Resistance on Fri, 03/20/2015 - 8:12pm
Resistance,
.
Do you really think I'm so dumb that I don't recognize blatant obfuscation when I see it? The PRESIDENT of the United States has SOLE power to negotiate with foreign powers - PERIOD! And the treasonous Republican 47 tried to usurp that presidential prerogative - PERIOD That is the issue. Stick to it. I'm use to dealing with conservatives, so I'm not going to allow you to try to contort either the facts, or truth, into a configuration that suits your point of view. If you say that the Republican 47 had a right to interfere with ongoing presidential negotiations, prove it. The burden of proof is on you.
.
And by the way, process of legislative checks and balances begins AFTER the negotiations. Follow your position would lead to chaos. There are always a group of people in this country who disagree with anything the president does. So your reference to "THE PEOPLE," is MEANINGLESS, because you're just referring to the people that YOU agree with. That's not how this country works. This is a REPRESENTATIVE democracy, and the people elected the President to speak for them, not legislators. Legislators legislate and ratify, or not ratify. They are not executives that was elected by ALL of the people, and charged with the responsibility of running the country, and those 47 idiots should have known that.
