An Experiment at TPMCafé? ... Give Me a Break !

Sometimes I'm Too Busy to Catch the Keepers . . .

I've been so tied up I missed this thread.

Here's the blustery "Big-Mouth Bass" that got away.

So as another mundane Monday comes upon us, let's take a trip down the rabbit-hole . . .

Nice ad hominem attack when I have never had anything to say one way or another on this. I think the Rabid Right is every bit as ridiculous as the Raging Left and have said so many times before. I don't consider myself or DD to be a member of either sect, but apparently that is lost on so many supposedly intelligent people.

Not sure where these delusions of persecution and paranoia come from, but I suppose I can thank TheraP for rallying her troops to the cause of exclusion and demonization of anyone who doesn't march lockstep with the party line. Not very liberal values from all the literature, but I suppose you are free to make up your own standards as the need arises.

Kind of like the Rabid Right you are so fond of lumping me in with.

You really don't understand the concept of ad hominem at all, Jason. My advice, take it or leave it, would be to stop complaining about it. You just make yourself look foolish.

And no, this is not ad hominem, either.

    user-pic

Ad hominem means attacking the man and not the argument. A standard debate tactic around here for anyone who doesn't toe the party line.

Your advice is noted, but forgive me if I'll don't just take the paranoid ranting of the ultra libs at this site with a grain of salt. If they stop making it personal, I'll be happy to have issue focused discussions.

By the way, I haven't noticed that you are all that willing to simply ignore insults, so your admonition is a little Do As I Say Not As I Do for me to take seriously.

PS: In case it helps clear up your misunderstanding of the phrase, here is what Wikipedia has to say about ad hominem attacks. Pretty clear when someone goes straight at the person rather than what they say (or in this case what I didn't say) it is an ad hominem attack. My description of the debate tactics by the Echo Chamber hardly equates to not knowing what ad hominem means.

    user-pic

Your "arguments" are pretty standard fare for members of your party -- insult while complaining about being insulted, mischaracterize while complaining about being mischaracterized.

For example, although you define ad hominem correctly, you fail to show where anyone has insulted your person. It's because you can't. We just point out that you are wrong and, like the conservative wing of your party often does, you pretend to have been attacked personally. And why shouldn't you? It's a tactic that's been helping you win arguments with the brain-dead since Reagan. For anyone with an ounce of sense, though, it's just ridiculous.

How come I don't see Jason and MiddleClassBill on this thread?
That is an attack on my person and not anything I did or didn't say. It is a holdover from another thread that has nothing to do with this one, which I hadn't even commented on.

Again and again, you use ad hominem attacks (" user-pic

Your "arguments" are pretty standard fare for members of your party...") which is really not a statement about my arguments at all. It is a statement about me that has nothing to do with anything I have ever said on these boards.

If I am somehow representative of the republican party then democrats should have nothing to complain about. Unfortunately, I am not yet representative of my party (anymore than moderate democrats are representative of theirs) and therein lies the problem.

Your misunderstanding of my positions doesn't make your opinion any more right than your counterparts on the Rabid Right. It only makes you appear to be exactly what you are - hyperpartisan and unwilling to modify your way of looking at the world in order to help us all move forward.

Sadly ironic that your crew is probably the biggest risk to our accomplishing the progressive changes we need to make. Not because your ideas are bad, but because you refuse to let go of your hate. It was annoying when the left was out of power, but the tactic will be every bit as destructive as it has been when the neoconservatives practiced the same methods.

    user-pic

PS: I am not going to go through each and every thread where "Zeno" has gone out of his way to attack my person rather than my ideas, but you are hardly in a position to criticize anyone about their method of conduct on this site.

You can continue to try and lump me in with those you hate, but it only makes you look out of touch and unable to read simple English.

I am happy to see my experiment has been successful in flushing out the Old Warriors on this site who can't seem to have a discussion without mentioning The Enemy.

You are a mirror image of the Rabid Right with your inability to use reason and logic as a way of transforming society. You prefer anger and fear and hate. That has never transformed anything and is certainly not the tactics our new president prefers.

"I am happy to see my experiment has been successful in flushing out the Old Warriors on this site who can't seem to have a discussion without mentioning The Enemy."

Aha! At last all the senseless babble and circuitous arguments and nonsense that you have passed along here makes sense, jason. It was all an EXPERIMENT! How very clever. Congratulations! NOW I can finally understand what all the bullsh*t was all about.

Imagine that, all you Old Warriors! We have been undone by jason, our cover has been blown! I surrender forthwith to this Napoleon of the TPM wars, and will continue to try to stay out of his way.

This begins treading upon the farcical.

Nothing to see here, folks. Just keep moving.

Again, you fail to understand what I am talking about because you refuse to remove your blinders.

It was an experiment to see if my ideas, which haven't changed one bit, would be taken differently based on the "label" of the person doing the commenting. It was successful because you, and all the Old Warriors like you, are unable to lay down their weapons in the interests of moving the country forward.

The only ones on TPM who don't seem to understand my fairly simple points are those who are too caught up in labels and conflict instead of ideas and progress. As you comment shows, this seems to be a particular point of pride. You would see the country fail if it means you are able to "crush" the right.

It appears Old Warriors can't learn new tricks.

"Oh, please, I beg of you kind sir! Lead us - the great unwashed - from out of the shadows into the promised land. Alas, I cannot see! Please remove the blight from mine eye so that I can begin to bear witness to the great and even Almighty Wisdom you might deign share with us who are so unworthy...."

Actually, jason, my eyesight's pretty good, and I've been around long enough to know that when I have trouble spotting something as it is pointed out to me, it is because there is actually nothing there.

Nothing to see here, folks. Keep moving.

    user-pic

Dismissive, combative and illogical. No big surprise here. Probably explains why many of the truly original voices at TPM have decided to leave. I am just too stubborn to be run off by a bunch of second-rate minds with third-rate opinions.

Little wonder why the Blustery Windbag has been seen less frequently 'round these parts bringing his personal brand of "liberal X conservative = progressive"  rhetoric to the rudderless great unwashed.
