    GRAVEYARDS, GRAVITY, GRAVY & GRAVITAS

THE NEW FACE OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY

        (And body type too!)

Karl Rove, one of the greatest political minds of our time, had this to say about Sarah Palin, one of the greatest helicopter moose hunters of our time:

There are high standards that the American people have for it [the presidency] and they require a certain level of gravitas, and they want to look at the candidate and say 'that candidate is doing things that gives me confidence that they are up to the most demanding job in the world.'"

    http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2010/10/28/rove-palin-lacks-gravitas-presidential-bid/

     Well, at first I thought:

What do those dry roux packets I purchase at the grocery store during the holidays have to do with running for POTUS?

    Then I thought:

What the hell does an apple falling on Newton’s head have to do with running for POTUS?

Well, after I looked up POTUS again just to make sure I decided to look up gravitas because I thought that maybe, the brightest political thinker of our time surely would not use a Roman word for cemeteries in the context of Sarah Palin without thinking it all through and stuff.

Gravitas was one of the Roman virtues, along with pietas, dignitas and virtus. It may be translated variously as weight, seriousness, dignity, or importance, and connotes a certain substance or depth of personality.

Well how do you like them apples? I mean gravitas has little to do with graveyards or gravy or gravity.

These geniuses are hard to follow without having Wiki close to one’s fingertips!

Rove was telling us that running around (or flying around) and killing moose (or is it mooses? I will Wiki that up and get back to you’all) from a helicopter with air to earth missiles on the Discovery Channel is no way to begin a run for President!

Well, Sarah was not just going to take this type of criticism lying down on a helicopter with moose in her sights:

Palin became testy when I asked her about the books I heard she had been reading. “I’ve been reading since I was a little girl,” she snapped. “And my mom is standing 15 feet away from me, and I should put her on the phone with you right now so she can tell you. That’s what happens when you grow up in a house full of teachers — you read; and I always have. Just because — and,” she continued, though in a less blistering tone, “I don’t want to come across sounding caustic or annoyed by this issue: because of one roll-of-the-eye answer to a question I gave, I’m still dealing with this,” she said, referring to her interview with Katie Couric. “There’s nothing different today than there was in the last 43 years of my life since I first started reading. I continue to read all that I can get my hands on — and reading biographies of, yes, Thatcher for instance, and of course Reagan and the John Adams letters, and I’m just thinking of a couple that are on my bedside, I go back to C.S. Lewis for inspiration, there’s such a variety, because books have always been important in my life.” She went on: “I’m reading [the conservative radio host] Mark Levin’s book; I’ll get ahold of Glenn Beck’s new book — and now because I’m opening up,” she finished warily, “I’m afraid I’m going to get reporters saying, Oh, she only reads books by Glenn Beck.”

I explained to Palin that in my view, at least, this line of inquiry wasn’t gratuitous — that questions did in fact linger about her “gravitas gap.”

(Sometimes this stuff gets awfully complicated, putting gratuitous and gravitas in the same sentence! But Wiki came through again for me in the pinch!!)

Well, all you have to do is go and ask her mother for chrissakes!

"You know, the country is worth it though to make those sacrifices," Palin replied, in a statement that really lent itself to the impression that she would run. "When we talk about making money today, having a lot of fun today, having all this freedom, if the country needed me, and I'm not saying that the country does and that the country would necessarily want to choose me over anyone else. But I would be willing to make the sacrifices if need be for America.”

I mean talk about bringing home the gravy and the GAGA!!!

And she knows what Africa is even though she cannot come up with the capitol spontaneiously. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/03/07/sarah-palin-africa-is-a-c_n_832605.html

Then I was thinking, how would this new type of analysis apply to other candidates?

So I was thinking about Chris Christie (in Espanol, that would be Jesus d’Jesus and in German Kris Kringle)

As far as gravitas, all you have to do is look at this NJ Governor’s face along with the rest of him.

    http://gawker.com/#!5713530/is-it-racist-to-call-chris-christie-fat

I mean if you think this guy has no depth, you should see him pile away seven ham sandwiches in one sitting!

And speaking of ham sandwiches, how about that Huckabee guy!

    http://presidenthuckabee2012.blogspot.com/2010/08/fat-mike-huckabee-will-he-run-again.html

And what about this Haley Barbour guy?

Talk about a Cabbage Patch Kid:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/07/haley-barbour-im-a-fat-re_n_528321.html

He kind of looks like a head of cabbage does he not?

And if you add Newt to the group I don’t think you could find four other guys who could clean up an all-you-can-eat buffet in a faster time!

    http://themoderatevoice.com/86100/is-newt-gingrich-the-gops-fat-elvis/

This guy has a B.A., an M.A. and a PhD. And unlike Barbour, Newt likes Negroes. Well sort of I think:

Former Republican House speaker Newt Gingrich said Obama and the Democrats will regret their decision to push for comprehensive reform. Calling the bill “the most radical social experiment . . . in modern times,” Gingrich said: “They will have destroyed their party much as Lyndon Johnson shattered the Democratic Party for 40 years” with the enactment of civil rights legislation in the 1960s.

I can only predict that the next Republican Candidate for President will be full of gravity and gravitas smothered in gravy most gratuitously!

Later in the week I will examine the issue of Class Warfare, Fox News and Jon Stewart! http://aphilosopher.wordpress.com/2011/03/06/fox-news-war-on-teachers/

I think this all has something to do with spitballs and the failure of children to properly render respect to  their teachers, but I am sure that Wiki will be there to help me wade through all of this!

Gracious! Gradual gradients of gravitas grapple gratuitously with grandstanding grandmas!

Why I think we have invented a new game here Smith. hahahaha

I feel your illustration does not fit your theme

Because should that be THE NEW FACE OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY

I'd think many on the left side of center would be happy to see it happen.

(I'd even be happy seeing a concurrent reduction in zealotry about obesity.)

I do not know half the time what the hell you are talking about!

You think I do not know who Taft is?

This was an era, an era where big fat robber barons ran the fucking country.

And they are doing it again.

    It is a metaphor.

Do you know what a metaphor is?

    Do not read me anymore.

    Most people don't anyway.

I do not know why, but your piece made me think of this.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhTd4_Ids80

    This should worry you. ;-)

Hahahahaha!  I've never seen that before.  It rocks!

I laughed through the whole video but I laughed HARD at one particular line which is surely correct, but I wouldn't want to be around to see it proven. Care to guess?.
