Katie Couric: McCain Used 20/20 Hindsight on Regulation "two years ago"

A few days ago, McCain fans were making much of a Kevin Hassett commentary on Bloomberg.com that blamed Dems - including Obama - for the current mess.  In his kicker paragraph, he noted that McCain had been a co-sponsor of a bill to TAKE ACTION and crack down on Fannie and Freddie.

Katie Couric picked up on that in her interview with Palin.  However, McCain's co-sponsorship was a lie perpetrated 10 months after the bill was dead.  The following is my post from a few days ago:

Oh, my goodness. Check out the closing paragraph from this fact-starved commentary from Kevin Hassett:

"Oh, and there is one little footnote to the story that's worth keeping in mind while Democrats point fingers between now and Nov. 4: Senator John McCain was one of the three cosponsors of S.190, the bill that would have averted this mess."

So, I clicked on the link for the bill that he uses for his conclusion. That page notes that the last major action on the bill was in July '05, when it was reported as "Ordered to be reported with an amendment in the nature of a substitute favorably." Nothing happened after that. EXCEPT.....

Sen. McCain BECAME A CO-SPONSOR 10 MONTHS LATER.

"John McCain. My hindsight is better than the other guy's foresight."
