Barack Obama is prepared to accept defeat in Iraq, Sen. Joe Lieberman said today on Fox News Sunday (see the video
here).
Lieberman, who described himself as an Independent Democrat, attacked
Obama relentlessly and also confirmed to host Chris Wallace that he would be willing to speak on behalf of GOP presidential nominee John McCain at
the Republican National Convention. Lieberman appeared on the program with Sen. Evan Bayh, who gave a spirited defense of Obama and said he could not confirm he was being considered as Obama's vice-presidential running mate.
"The reason I say if Barack Obama's policy in Iraq had been implemented, he couldn't be Iraq today, is because he was prepared to accept retreat and defeat, and that would mean today al Qaeda would be in charge of parts of Iraq, Iranian extremists would be in charge of other parts of Iraq, there would be civil war and maybe even genocide."
Bayh responded: "Barack Obama was not for losing in Iraq. Barack didn't want the war to begin with. John McCain opposed surging troops in afghanistan until last week. Was john for losing in afghanistan? I don't think so. Now you have Maliki, even President Bush, are moving toward Barack Obama's position."
Lieberman is serving his very last term as a U.S. senator and Republican lapdog, God and the voters of Connecticut willing.
