The Bishop and the Butterfly: Murder, Politics, and the End of the Jazz Age

    MISPROGNOSTICATION

    Truth

I get lost sometimes; hell I have been lost for 15 years.

I find the cable news so goddamnably boring lately it is all I can do to watch Martin Bashir let alone Chris.

If gays get to marry in civil or religious ceremonies I could care less.

Why should I care if religious ceremonies are recognized by the state?

And why should I care if state sanctioned unions survive or not?

I do not see how it effects me?

I paid extra taxes for being married for decades.

But do not throw the cream pies; because if heterosexuals get married I could care less.

    I really don't.

These marriage ceremonies that I have attended or seen on cable mean absolutely nothing to me!

It all means as much to me as a replay of some segment of the old Kevin James sitcoms.

    I don't care.

    I watch movies.

I get into serial murder movies.

By the end of the serial movie ten or fifteen are dead over some period of time involving years.

And yet while I had viewed that movie I realize that fifteen or more folks have died in this country by gunfire or another fifteen folks have found their demise in motor vehicle accidents. A thousand or more had died as a result of heart attacks or strokes.

If you are dead, you are dead!

Whether someone cuts the head off of your corpse and mails it to some strange place in the desert means nothing!

I could get into the matter of substantial contributing factors if you demanded it.

Oh this guy died of lung cancer at age 78, like his smoking would have kept him from living until age 81?

    I mean who cares?

    I don't.

Not until I read the entire file on this 78 year old cadaver and discover if he was a mine worker fifty years ago or if he was employed as an insulation worker in regard to remodeling old buildings or if he drank water from a well contaminated by some energy company or if he had been employed at the Salt Water Flats thirty years ago or if he had starred in some western during the fifties in the areas where we tested the H Bombs.

Oh, the 69 year old died from a heart attack, caused by smoking.

What the hell does that mean?

I had a panic attack in 1996 and it took all I had to arrive at the nearest ER in my car.

    I was having trouble breathing.

The doctors took one look into my throat and said I was dead anyway from cancer!

Two doctors informed me of this 'fact'.

    I swear to Almighty God!

I would have had a better result if I had consulted the Oracles at Delphi or some Viking Shaman with her bone tossing rituals!

Getting back to the 69 year old heart failure; how long did his daddy live? How long had his mumsy lived? How long had his siblings lived?

What kind of stress was that patient under at the time of his death?

We come up with short cuts in order to 'solve' whatever issue is before us!

Why am I bringing this up?

Well maybe it all involves echoes from instructions I have received over the last 60 years or so.

Pray real hard and give tithes to the current church you belong to and all will be well.

Always tell the truth and you shall be rewarded.

Do not steal and you shall be revered. Although Greenwald does not think this rule works!

Never have sex with anyone and you shall find the Kingdom of God. (Actually I think this might have worked! I would have been a millionaire but a frustrated millionaire just the same!)

Always follow the rules; and you shall survive.

Logic can only be based upon assumptions.

I think the death of a 50 year old football player coupled with the death of a 59 year old Boston Red Sox announcer got to me.

The footballer did not die as a result of concussions.

The announcer did not die as a result of smoking.

    They just died.

I mean sometimes life is fair.

    I mean Breitbart is dead.

And sometimes life is not fair.

    Dick Cheney is still alive!

I have seen these types of results my entire life.

I mean Hitler survived assassination attempts

Where politics has suddenly ruined any chance of my chapped loins from finding relief relates to a number of statements made by politicians and by the main stream media.

It is not just that John Bolton would blame Hillary for some 'damned if you do or damned if you don't' situation that a blind Chinese fellow finds Himself in.

Now John Bolton had once expressed his 'hope” that half of the UN Building in NYC would blow up and be no more all the whilst claiming that Muslims would burn down half of America for spite.

And yet Bolton became Secretary to the UN and nothing was blown up!

The point of this little essay involves a question:

Who was good at prognostication and who was just horsehit at prognostication?

I came to some minimal sense of truth a short while ago.

When someone says something and that something is recorded, that something somehow lives forever.

    The something was an event!

    Mitt Romney

Mitt sat down and wrote an editorial for the NYTimes in 2008 following the elections. He had already lost the nomination months and months before this great literary event.

And yet Willard felt that he must put his thoughts and his dreams and his conclusions into writing with no thought of the future, with no thought of his own resurrection three years later and without any recompense to his fortune.

    November 18, 2008

IF General Motors, Ford and Chrysler get the bailout that their chief executives asked for yesterday, you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye. It won’t go overnight, but its demise will be virtually guaranteed.

Without that bailout, Detroit will need to drastically restructure itself. With it, the automakers will stay the course — the suicidal course of declining market shares, insurmountable labor and retiree burdens, technology atrophy, product inferiority and never-ending job losses. Detroit needs a turnaround, not a check.

I love cars, American cars. I was born in Detroit, the son of an auto chief executive. In 1954, my dad, George Romney, was tapped to run American Motors when its president suddenly died. The company itself was on life support — banks were threatening to deal it a death blow. The stock collapsed. I watched Dad work to turn the company around — and years later at business school, they were still talking about it. From the lessons of that turnaround, and from my own experiences, I have several prescriptions for Detroit’s automakers. ..

The American auto industry is vital to our national interest as an employer and as a hub for manufacturing. A managed bankruptcy may be the only path to the fundamental restructuring the industry needs. It would permit the companies to shed excess labor, pension and real estate costs. The federal government should provide guarantees for post-bankruptcy financing and assure car buyers that their warranties are not at risk.

In a managed bankruptcy, the federal government would propel newly competitive and viable automakers, rather than seal their fate with a bailout check.

Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, was a candidate for this year’s Republican presidential nomination.

And Rove backs him up of course!

So how did the REAL new President elected in 2008 handle the situation?

Well President Obama (when he had balls and the Senate and the House of Representatives aligned with those balls) bailed out the auto industry!

    And guess what?

GM, Ford and Chrysler have not performed at this level for decades!

So what does the Mitt say now?

Well it was my idea and I should receive congratulations for my fine advice!

Look, it makes more sense to say that the 78 year old killed himself by smoking than to hand Willard any congratulations for his positions vis a vis the automobile manufacturing industry four years ago!

But this is all irrelevant any way.

First, repub union workers in the auto industry will still vote for Mitt because he has white kids and really understands the lower learning curve of women and Negroes in the working place even if the son of a bitch does not say so.

Second, FOX employees as well as many other local newscasters will allow Mitt to underline his hand in this great recovery for the auto industry in America today. And these same propagandists will maintain that the auto industry would have performed better under someone else's watch; especially some white guy who has white children and a golf membership at some exclusive club.

Third, not that many gay folks work at auto plants anyway—so who cares?

    Fourth, Mitt Romney loves cars!

Is this the first time I have heard and witnessed such drivel?

Nixon had a secret plan to end the war in Vietnam!

We will confront the hard issues -- threats to our national security, threats to our health and retirement security -- before the challenges of our time become crises for our children.

And we will extend the promise of prosperity to every forgotten corner of this country.

To every man and woman, a chance to succeed. To every child, a chance to learn. To every family, a chance to live with dignity and hope.

For eight years, the Clinton/Gore administration has coasted through prosperity. And the path of least resistance is always downhill. But America's way is the rising road. This nation is daring and decent and ready for change.

Our current president embodied the potential of a generation. So many talents. So much charm. Such great skill. But, in the end, to what end? So much promise, to no great purpose...

Our military is low on parts, pay and morale. If called on by the commander-in-chief today, two entire divisions of the Army would have to report ... Not ready for duty, sir.

This administration had its moment. They had their chance. They have not led. We will.

This generation was given the gift of the best education in American history. Yet we do not share that gift with everyone. Seven of ten fourth-graders in our highest poverty schools cannot read a simple children's book.

And still this administration continues on the same old path with the same old programs -- while millions are trapped in schools where violence is common and learning is rare.

This administration had its chance. They have not led. We will.

America has a strong economy and a surplus. We have the public resources and the public will -- even the bipartisan opportunities -- to strengthen Social Security and repair Medicare.

But this administration -- during eight years of increasing need -- did nothing. They had their moment. They have not led. We will...

We will strengthen Social Security and Medicare for the greatest generation, and for generations to come. Medicare does more than meet the needs of our elderly, it reflects the values of our society.

We will set it on firm financial ground, and make prescription drugs available and affordable for every senior who needs them. Social Security has been called the "third rail of American politics" -- the one you're not supposed to touch because it shocks you.

But, if you don't touch it, you can't fix it. And I intend to fix it.

To seniors in this country ... You earned your benefits, you made your plans, and President George W. Bush will keep the promise of Social Security ... no changes, no reductions, no way. Our opponents will say otherwise. This is their last, parting ploy, and don't believe a word of it...

We are now the party of ideas and innovation ... The party of idealism and inclusion.

The party of a simple and powerful hope ...

My fellow citizens, we can begin again. After all of the shouting, and all of the scandal. After all of the bitterness and broken faith. We can begin again!

That was George W. Bush in 2000!

Clinton's Administration saw the influx of 20 million jobs over 8 years.

W's Administration saw a net loss of jobs; especially if you include the losses experienced in 2009!

But ask Ed Gillespe about this grand job growth scenario!

Forget that Ed and others from this satanic administration had seen that foxes would be appointed in charge of the henhouse, forget that this satanic administration ignored warning signals of the doom that would follow the following 44 months, forget that this satanic administration included employees who made out like bandits during the downfall of American Enterprize; we must understand that we had growth for 52 months. None of the growth attributed to wage increases for the middle class, non of the growth attributed to this 52 month growth aided the poor in anyway, any manner or any form! None of the growth attributed to this 52 month growth aided our infrastructure as a nation.

The only thing that this 52 month growth added was to the gross national debt!

How do repubs handle these facts and graphs and statistics and findings by neutral observers?

Well let us take a look at Wisconsin Governor Walker!

Look, Walker fired thousands upon thousands of public workers whilst he vetoed Federal Funds given to Wisconsin per Obama's job funding programs and he created nothing!

OH BUT GIVE ME JUST A LITTLE MORE TIME!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7G7CZ4ikHk

No, see you cannot win an argument with this neanderthal!

    Independents?

Shit, if independents are so goddamn smart why cannot they choose a side?

    WHY?

    Because they are idiots.

    The end.

Except for my Ode to Independents

I understand your frustration with the news media. My list of "want to hear about" stories aren't their focus. I watch movies too. I get mine at the library and get to meet other frustrated people in the long check out line because the library hours have been cut in half. I don't have internet service so I take a laptop with me when I am at the library to use their wi fi. I usually sit in the car using wifi because the library is filled with people using wifi. I am too old to sit on the floor. It is all the little things that austerity does that could certainly defeat the Republicans in the next election. It doesn't take long for people to.get tired of it.

    To better days Momoe!

Well, Mr. Day, I am very sad to learn that you consider me an idiot.

I will not, however, take it personally, because like Dolly Parton responded when someone told her she was just a dumb blonde, "First of all, I know I'm not dumb and second, I know I'm not blonde."
I do understand the frustration some have with independents not declaring a party affiliation. It's always great to see who's on which team when we all line up for the Big Dodge Ball match on the playground. Then we can take a head count and see who wins before the game ends. Where's the fun in that I ask you? cheeky Isn't the last minute nail-biting half the high of a political junkie's fix?

For me, being an independent isn't simply a matter of not making a commitment. I've chosen plenty of sides to be on but not picking D or R or any other capital letter isn't because I think I'm so goddamn smart. Basically, it's because it ain't nobody's business but my own.

Well I know one thing; my Flower is not dumb! ha

I am from time to time however. hahahahahahaaha

What can the repubs possibly give anyone but the top ten or twenty percent?

I get lost on that statement.

    Now...

Green Party or Moveon.Org or whatever.

    I get that.

But I cannot find one issue where I would agree with the repub party.

    And especially now!

    That is all I meant.

    Dem or repub?

Will our Congress people consent to Obama's appointments or not?

Will we enlarge our electorate or shrink it?

Will we give women their due as citizens or not?

Will we keep a governmental system that protects our air and drinking water or not?

Will we regulate the greatest gamblers in the history of humanity or not?

Will we protect our children or not?

Will we educate our children and enable them to understand basic laws of the universe or not?

Oh well, you have heard all these rants and more from me!

We live in a binary system except for primaries (involving dems only--oh by the way the Maine independent who might replace Snow has already announced his backing of Obama!)

    I dunno.

Obviously this particular rant of mine has not exactly gained any fire!

    hahahahah
