Open thread on a George Will Remark on Obama's Nobel Speech

On This Week with George Stephanopoulos yesterday, George's guest panel talked about the speech.  George Will's remarks have been rattling around in my head;  I'd like to know what you think about these remarks.

In answer to a question from George, Will said that no, he didn't think the speech spelled out The Obama Doctrine, and continued:

I thought the most interesting part was his acceptance of the fact that ethnic and sectarian violence is the new cause of turmoil in the world.  This marks the end of what Patrick Moynihan used to call The Liberal Expectancy; that was the faith that once science, progress, and education had reached a certain level that we had reached, presumably, in the Twentieth Century, that religion and ethnicity as driving forces would lose their saliency. In fact, they're now more virulent than ever.
