    Tainter: Q&A Session

Dr Tainter fielded several questions after the keynote lecture I just posted. Some of his responses are a lot more direct than his presentation, particularly his answer to the very last question:

    Part One

    Part Two

I like the question about history and teaching kids about it. I used to think history at best boring but that was before I watched the series by James Burke on PBS. This series show me that history can be made very interesting. It's all in how it's presented.

All I can think of are the arguments for what the hell brought down the Roman Empire.

Rome kept growing for 1100 years and following its capture of Carthage, it was an empire for over 650 years.

Probably the funniest argument lays the blame upon the Christians since the empire was destroyed within a century of the Niacene Council. hahahaahaha

There are a thousand variables affecting this planet right now.

To say that this person has the knowledge necessary to predict--and predictions are the key here--the 'end of America' or the end of the American Empire, is foolishness.

Probably better to cut a goat open and have a seer go through its inerts. ha

Know any old goats we could use?
