The Bishop and the Butterfly: Murder, Politics, and the End of the Jazz Age

I Believe...For Now

I believe in karma, and that what goes around
comes around

I believe that when I find a $20 bill on the ground
I can take it
as long as no one’s around

I believe that there are good people doing hard jobs
and I can trust in them
to know more than I do

I believe that there are some bad people doing easy work
and I can trust them
as far as I can throw them

I believe that I can tell the difference between good people and bad
and I know who to back
and who to toss aside

Educate Me

Ha. Don't crush yourselves trying to be first in line, Dag Bloggers. I don't want an education on politics, thank you very much.

What I'd like to talk about is education. As in public schools.

See, what started all of this was my Thanksgiving dinner with my family. I don't have kids, but I have a lot of sisters and nieces and a nephew and two grand-nephews. And my eldest niece is a high school teacher. And my two older sisters have seen a lot of strange stuff going on in the education realm lately, so it became a hot topic.

Who cares?

We live

in our red white and blue

hugging and burning

ranting and waving

too often not contemplating

or looking to tomorrow

we just borrow

We live

with a sense of sorrow

in our rag-tag teams

agreeing and fighting

kissing and biting

too seldom truly thinking

or trying to help out

we just bout

We live

and forget that we pass

as all things must do

the scraps and me and you

we die too too

too eager to make a point

instead of making a difference

Meet The Family

Okay, folks, I'm gonna try to put this in a light that I think will best explain why I agree with Obama and his tactics. Bear with me, okay?

First, for you ladies out there, pretend you're a man. Okay, now.

Workers Unite!

It's a worker's party....who could ask for more? Everybody's coming, leave your anger at the door. Leave your taxes, anger at the door.

It's become increasingly clear to me that the middle and lower classes are being stomped on. Government and Big Banks and Corporations have all colluded to take over what little is left of our proud workers and we are now nothing but pawns.

Call me slow, for finally catching up.  But I'm tired.

Time Out

When I was unemployed, I would sometimes stay up all night, chatting or blogging or just listening to music. Eventually I'd end up alone after other chatters went to bed, and after other bloggers stopped commenting and posting, and I'd turn off the music and just sit and stare out the windows of my attic apartment and watch the sky lighten.

There's this pause in the early morning just before the sun breaks over the horizon. This long pause while the sky brightens from black to deep dark blue to a slightly paler hue. It's a lovely thing to watch, to witness. To feel.

Take a Sentrist

Tired of being too far left to make a difference?  Tired of the crazy Right having too many rights?

Folks, step right up here (er, or, left up here) and join my new party.

The Sentrist Party.  Stands for Sensible mixed with Centrist.  Get it?  If not, pay attention, folks, cuz you will.

I wonder if God has an iPod....or does he prefer Pandora?

The world I know leaves me questioning, questioning.  What if God was one of usHow far is heaven?  Tell me all your thoughts on God 'cause I'd really like to meet her.  Right here, right now.
