....The negotiations that led to today's announcement, in which the US and Cuba will take major steps toward normalization, took 18 long months, according to a report in the New York Times. And many of those negotiations were held in Canada, formally but secretly hosted by the Canadian government....Pope Francis played a similar role in helping to bring the Cuban leaders to the negotiating table. And, unlike Canadian officials, who did not sit at from the formal talks, Vatican officials participated actively in discussions.....

Need I point out that this news conveniently offers further fuel for some that all three (Pope, Canada, Obama) are Commies Photo from NYTimes current home page:

Hmm. I'm seeing Erich Fromm's work on "freedom from" and "freedom to", or perhaps Adorno's F-scale.

Is it too much to ask of conspiracy theorists that they learn how to spell conspiracy? I mean really, "compiracy"?

Cuba is about the get hit with cash and Catholicism Communism stands little chance.

You get the deeply analytic comment of the week award! It's both metaphoric and actual. Cuba needs cash cause Venezuela ain't looking like they are going to continue to provide it. Now that I see that, I suspect a promise of sort sort of immediate trade was probably one main sweetener that helped swing the deal.

This is a big deal today.
No kidding.
I was so struck by this announcement.
Cuban cigars excepted.
Obama kind of promised this change.
Here it is.
This is a big deal to me.
No kidding.

Hey Dick... I know you'll get this...
The real conspiracy behind this? U.S. car collectors and auto auction houses.
Ah Hah!

There may be some real valuable Classic Cars in Cuba but most are just old cars. The amazing story is how the Cubans kept these oldies running without replacement parts from the US.
It is typical of some Amerikans to gloat over what we can take from Cuba now because we have so little to offer them. It is also very interesting that Fidel has been silent about this development.

I am just now absorbing this news. This is good for South Florida. Really Really Good. Tampa has a large Cuban population also, not just Miami. They also have one of the largest Spanish newspapers. The protests have been just a few old people and everyone else is happy. For many here it is like having the Berlin Wall come down.
Why in the world didn't this happen before the election?
by trkingmomoe on Wed, 12/17/2014 - 10:13pm
Just imagine ... immigration, climate change agreement with China, net neutrality, veto threat of Keystone, Iran nuclear talks continuing and this ... before November. Multiple obvious reasons why not, but it sure would have been interesting!

It makes a difference who in the hell is President of the United States of America.
IT REALLY DOES.
These recent expositions? really underline my position?
I think these facts? really underline this position.
What the hell was the question?
See, I get confused.
hahahaha

Obama's move includes almost every crime in the Stalinist Article 58 so loved by Republicans as a model of True Merican Campaign Attack Ad malarkey and Freedumb:
Diversionary act which makes GOP look stuck in the 1960's, while diverting attention from his other crimes
Collusion with anti-Tea Party foreign subversives like the Pope,
Counter Teavolutionary conspiracy by making Cuba and Cubans less s-c-a-r-y !!
Wrecking chances a future Republican could threaten war with Cuba to get elected....

Really good word coinage, NCD. Talk about linguistically and semiologically complex. It gets my head spinning in circles if I think on it. They really are the radicals and Obama the moderate is "conservative" in comparison. Theirs is a world where thinking of humans as nuanced complex beings is not considered. Ironically, so similar to Robespierre, so similar to the Khmer Rouge, so similar to...the early Fidel!
