New estimates based on C.D.C. health surveys point to a stark generational shift in the growth of the transgender population of the United States.
By Azeen Ghoraysi @ NYTimes.com, June 10, 2022
The number of young people who identify as transgender has nearly doubled in recent years, according to a new report that captures a stark generational shift and emerging societal embrace of a diversity of gender identities.
The analysis, relying on government health surveys conducted from 2017 to 2020, estimated that 1.4 percent of 13- to 17-year-olds and 1.3 percent of 18- to 24-year-olds were transgender, compared with about 0.5 percent of all adults. Those figures illustrated a significant rise since the researchers’ previous report in 2017, though the analyses used different methods.
Experts said that young people increasingly have the language and social acceptance to explore their gender identities, whereas older adults may feel more constrained. But the numbers, which vary widely from state to state, also raise questions about the role of peer influence or the political climate of the community [....]
The notion of what it means to live as a transgender person is also shifting. Dr. Goepferd, who is nonbinary, noted that many teenagers would not necessarily want or need hormones or surgeries to transition to another gender, as was typical of older generations [....]
There's a lot of comments that you will find saying that mass shootings are not as frequent as people say and that it's largely overreporting that makes it seem that way. It's not true. This was not a large scale phenomenon until the late 1990s. Also, unlike elusive serial killers, it seems as if many of these people want and expect to be caught and apprehended:
The man who stalked and allegedly conspired to kill Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh told a 911 dispatcher, shortly after arriving outside the judge’s home, that he needs “psychiatric help,” according to newly released audio of the call.
Nicholas Roske, 26, of Simi Valley, California expressed his need for medical attention after showing up at Kavanaugh’s Maryland home Wednesday morning with a cache of weapons, according to Fox News.
At the last minute, Roske had second thoughts about the alleged murder mission and called 911.
He called law enforcement on himself, much like the NYC subway shooter. He backed down, much like Corey Badsgaard.
Nicholas Roske came to Brett Kavanaugh's home armed with a Glock 17 handgun, a knife, pepper spray, zip ties, a nail punch, a crowbar, and a hammer.
I talk about SSRIs. The kid looks friendlier than Brett Kavanaugh himself. He said he was on medication. Come on, people.I will just mention that that bit is a possibility:
During his initial court appearance on federal charges of attempting to kill or kidnap a US judge, Roske was asked if he understood what was happening and whether he was thinking clearly.
“I think I have a reasonable understanding, but I wouldn’t say I’m thinking clearly,” he said.
Roske added that was taking medication, but didn’t elaborate on what it is or why he is on it.
Federal agents on Thursday arrested Ryan Kelley, a Michigan Republican vying for the party’s gubernatorial nomination, and charged him with participating in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. FBI spokeswoman Mara Schneider told The Associated Press Kelley was arrested in western Michigan and will have a court hearing in Grand Rapids.
He faces four charges related to his activity at the Capitol, NBC News reports, including disorderly conduct and willfully injuring or attacking U.S. property.Photos of Kelley at the Capitol during the violent attack show him in sunglasses and a backward hat appearing to wave rioters toward the building and, the FBI says, supporting another rioter who was pulling down a metal barricade [....]
I don't know who could ever praise someone who hurts a child.
I want to add in - I was introduced to violence in schools. I got bullied to an extent that was unbelieveable.
I think that people should use this and the remote opportunities that have arisen from Covid to just get their kids the hell out of schools. On some level - the drugs, the guns, all the weird stuff - emanates from it.
A reminder other people have complex but unrelated lives to yours. Alternate universe abound.
