What do we know of al-Zawahiri? Perhaps inevitably, his views are extremist and his willingness to use deadly violence isn't in doubt. His 2001 treatise "Knights Under the Prophet's Banner" established a long-term strategy for the jihad movement. To wit: to inflict "as many casualties as possible" on the Americans, while attempting to establish control in a nation, and "to launch the battle to restore the holy caliphate" of Islamic rule across the Muslim world.
Indeed, even when bin Laden was alive, it was al-Zawahiri who was tasked with rebuilding al-Qaeda's leadership in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border region in light of U.S. attempts to dismantle the terrorist organization post-9/11. Just as worrisome, bin Laden considered al-Zawahiri a mentor. "Al-Zawahiri was always bin Laden's mentor. Bin Laden always looked up to him," terrorism expert Bruce Hoffman of Georgetown University told the AP.

I think Zawahri's toast without Bin Laden. He's got a serious problem with the "hey you kids, get off my lawn" thing:
Both of 'em were bascially has beens among young jihadis, but Osama really truly did have a charismatic religious talent that resonated with the ultra devout (I remember seeing a video of a young Saudi woman saying stuff about his videos like he was a rock star and she was a groupie) and he would still have maintained a certain "saintly elder" rep among some. As one relative said about him as a young man, he was "holy holy."
Zawahri on the other hand, was always the angry guy, he's always just bitchin' or crabbin' about someone or something or another, logistics is all and there is no inspirational quality there. . None. It's all political Islam, no holy Islam, all rules, no dreams, even looks like personal grudge sometimes. If there's any young true Al Qaeda believers left, and even that's questionable (especially with "Arab spring" movements allover the place.) Zawahri is not the one they'd follow, Even Mullah Omar would be a better candidate-he's got the holy uneducated hermit thing. Al-Awlaki has his fans but he tends more to the Zawahri angry rather than the Osama inspirational.

What kind of girl do you think we are?
What kind of girl do you think we are?
Don't call us groupies
That is going too far
We wouldn't ball you
Just because you're a star
These girls wouldn't let just anybody
Spew on their vital parts
They want a guy from a group with a
Big hit single in the charts
Funny you should mention it:
Our new single just made the charts this week
With a bullet! With a bullet!
Lust let me put a little more
Rancid Budweiser on my beard right now, Baby
And you can show me how a young girl such as you
Might be thrilled and overwhelmed by me...
What hotel did you say you are staying at?
Wanna split right away?
Not so fast, you sillt boy... there's one thing I gotta say:
We want aguy from a group who's got a thing in the charts
We want aguy from a group who's got a thing in the charts
We want aguy from a group who's got a thing in the charts
We want aguy from a group who's got a thing in the charts

CM! Can I tell you how many times I listened to this on that Filmore album (with Frank joined by Flo and Eddie) in my freshman dorm in 1977? Maybe I shouldn't. You just took me on a stroll down memory lane like wow. Thanks! :) And speaking of monsters!

Makes me think how Frank would have undoubtedly made great hay with a character like Osama.
Then I thought of this joke poster (credit: Artifical Eyes)
And then I wonder what Gaddafi is thinking.
