I have been following this very closely for the last week. Iceland is in for another eruption. It is fascinating how close they were to the actual day it would erupt. Scientist have been reporting the lava as it moved under the crust. This is a bad situation for Iceland because this is subglacial and can cause a jökulhlaup which is an water ice flood. This thread will continue to update through the night.

Here is the latest video of the seismic activity of the the moving lava in 4 D chart.

This site shows the earth quakes as they happen in the area of volcanic activity. The web cam can be addictive as you watch it shake. You can see that during daylight hours in Iceland. The ground quakes every few minutes. This is the area where 3 tectonic plates are pulling apart and a large rift is forming causing all this activity.

There is some great pictures and articles on the pending eruption in Iceland in this online magazine from Iceland.

Here is a 3 D topography of where the magma is moving and how deep it is. You can move the graphic with your cursor. The little dots underneath is where all the earth quakes are originating as the dike moves along the rift. This has been absolutely fascinating stuff to follow.

I am just blown away at how we can follow this in real time and the advancement of science to track this.
The idea that we have a government agency that hasn't figured out that the internet is a public utility. Yet it is used as a public utility in Europe very effectively. This is a very dangerous situation for Iceland and the internet is playing a roll to keep the people informed.

There has been another eruption. The visuals on the web cam has been stunning.

The first fissure eruption died down and researchers were able to get samples. The sample only had about 2% sulfur in it, only this means the magma had time to disburse it's sulfur before it broke through the surface. This second eruption is in the same area and is releasing more magma this time. The rift is getting wider as the North American Plate continues to move. There has been over 400 earth quakes in 24 hours in this area. This is about 20 years of movement in a short time. As we know from California that the movement is usually in fits and starts, not a continuous smooth movement. The fissure eruption is about a mile long and growing.
The dike is continuing to move north and is interacting with a second volcano, Asjkia. If the dike reaches all the way to Asjkia all bets are off. There is now seismic activity on it's south rim. This volcano's chamber contains explosive magma that will react with what is in the dike. This is one of the large volcanoes.
Bardarbunga is continuing to have an subglacial eruption. The weather is bad because of the hurricane is off it's coast right now, which is keeping the researcher from flying over the glacier to look for clues. There has been strong seismic activity there. The worry is a glacial flood of ice and water. This glacier is about 500 to 800 meters thick and is the largest in Europe. It can cause quite a flood with out making much of a dent in it. But the last time they looked the ice around the volcano was now full of dents and cracks.
Iceland is worried about this one because of the amount of magma that is moving and the pressure it is under. It is also in an historical dangerous place for eruption. This is where the really bad ones take place.
The links in the above comments are continually updated in real time so you can check back and see how the magma is moving from the seismic activity and how deep it is being fed from. .
