It might not work fast enough! "Inside the Nation's Growing Panic To Contain the White House Crisis." link

Wow that WaPo piece is one great team reporting job, I really am impressed. Not just another basic White House leak job, they came at it from every damn angle, using a ton of sources from allover the place and pulled it all together. Particularly impressive is how they clearly went back and lined up what they were getting from others with what Trump said in public and when. In the end it comes out a story less like the story of All the Presidents Men and more like The Final Days. A lot of old saws come to mind like chickens finally coming home to roost and hoist on his own petard...

Jared more and more looking like the real Trump manipulator:
Maybe I am imagining things, but makes me wonder if that recent Trump very calm comment "the country is closed, no more room", which seemed so out of character--the typical is attack attack scare scare bluster about crime--came out of Jared's mouth as a suggestion of what to say instead of the usual.

The Border Is Broken. And There’s No Plan to Fix It.

adding quote from the above piece, is sort of the summary basis of it, and presumes that it should be admitted by all as fact that a major part of the problem is that the child thing is being manipulated:

Why did treasonous, Deep State spying Democrats, plan a coup against Trump, for his plan to MAGA, and secure the nation's borders?
That's the complete, total, bumper sticker 'deep', GOP campaign message for 2020.
by NCD on Wed, 04/10/2019 - 5:24pm
Good predictive analysis. I venture therefore, that the current House needs to ty to honestly address and try to fix the problem, even if they don't succeed? Can't really be ignored or dismissed as faux any longer, not to Dems benefit?
by artappraiser on Wed, 04/10/2019 - 5:33pm
AMNESTY!!!! NO!!! A big loser for Dems. Might have worked in 2010.
Republicans will run on deporting every last immigrant. Trump toughness!!
Democrats will argue amongst themselves, achieve division and rancor, apathy.....
by NCD on Wed, 04/10/2019 - 5:43pm
The house can't address or fix the problem without the republicans and the president. While there might be some small possibility to reach a compromise with republicans the president can not or will not cooperate. All he wants is a wall. Just a symbol that will not fix the problem. As the article pointed out this is no longer an immigrant crisis it's a refugee crisis. How to deal with refugees is different than how to deal with immigrants. The state department needs to work with these countries to bring them back from their failed state condition. Trump controls the state department. Foreign aid needs to be substantially increased and foreign aid is anathema to at least the republican base. As usual Trump is proposing a stick rather than a carrot and wants to end foreign aid which his base might like but will make the problem even worse. Mexico must be convinced to slow the flow of refugees through the country. Trump can't bully Mexico into cooperating. His confrontational approach has led to such a dysfunctional relationship with Mexico that it's unlikely to be mended sufficiently to get cooperation. Even if it was possible to mend the relationship Trump isn't capable of negotiating a win/win bargain. Trump can only reach an I win-You lose bargain or an I win-you might think you won too but I scammed you bargain.

God already is SORTING THEM OUT!!! Dems must act! Dems fault! (GOP spin)
Trump today:
Dangerous People Are Coming Here and the Good People Are Dying,’ Trump Warns in Texas Visit
President Trump said on Wednesday that migrants pouring across the border with Mexico are dying in great numbers while other gang members arriving from Central America are marauding and threatening American ranchers.
The marauders!!!!

He is just so stupidly fixated and crazed. For chrissakes, I could think of better spin for him, do the Reagan welfare queen thing for example. How they are all coming for taxpayer-paid warmth and safety and three meals a day in our fine holding facilities. Comes to mind that's the kind of thing that's working in the EU now for anyone with a nationalist bent, Australia, too. He's lost without Bannon, relying on MS-15 bogeymen and fevered imaginings.

Remember Trump's "duct taped women in the back of vans"?
Did Trump save them?
by NCD on Wed, 04/10/2019 - 9:00pm
One thing is that "the wall" looks as ridiculous as ever, or even more so. Terminology is important.
As there are hardly any "illegal" immigrants coming over the border. Such thing is now a rarity at the southern border. (The "illegals" are more like the ones who come on a plane with a visa and overstay their visa.)
No, at the Southern border, we now have a situation where most are legally and lawfully presenting themselves to border control for asylum. This is where the absurdity comes in.
And Trump has a lot invested in this concept of monsters sneaking over the border, almost a mentally ill like obsession, like with sharks.
Heck I daresay that Canada might grow a greater illegal crossing problem now than us, as they get people who are here in the U.S. illegally who are tired of running and hiding from ICE nazis.
Refugee is the correct word, I don't know if it's going to be a politically correct word, though...don't know if it will help the situation if Congress doesn't get real. Judges will support the law on the books unless Congress changes it!
As for Dem Congresspersons who now have a majority in the House now going to visit holding camps and complaining that it's an admin outrage. Well I don't know if that's going to fly or work for them much longer. The got two choices as I see it: change the laws or get working on funding a huge new intake system and a ton more immigration judges to deal with it. That's where they will get the blame if they don't show that they tried to fix it with some bills and funding.
No matter who he hires and what those hires think is the thing to do, Trump admin. is just going to make a mess of it with such a lunatic obsessive at the top. Clearly it has come to pass that immigration at the southern border has become a deep part of his ego and psychological issues--just like the sharks that Stormy told us about--and people will try to manipulate him on it this way and that, but then he inevitably comes back to the scary bogeyman thing with the duct tape and MS-13. (Which is so fucking screwed up, as the gangs and criminally-oriented men are the ones staying home in most cases now, where they got power, and they, not just poverty, are part of the problem of causing the women and children to flee to the U.S. border.)

Trump is being Trump. He is an unstable idiot.
Mulvaney is ok with it. The Republicans are ok with it.
Dems gave him billions for the border. They offered $25 billion in 2/2017 if he gave amnesty to the dacas. He refused as The Base demands the inquisition and The Wall.
There were twice as many coming in in the early 2000s.

Q. & A.: A Former Immigration Official on How Much Harm Trump Could Do

In chaotic times, chaos often wins. Chaos creates the power vacuum that sucks the unthinkable to the fore.
The Chaos Party, from 2015, American Prospect, link.
Republicans don't fix national problems, they heighten, aggravate and then endlessly exploit them. Why? Because they'll do anything to stay in power.

I am reminded of the Rummy classic about untidy freedom:
And, does that mean you couldn’t go in there and take a television camera or get a still photographer and take a picture of something that was imperfect, untidy? I could do that in any city in America. Think what’s happened in our cities when we’ve had riots, and problems, and looting.
Stuff happens! But in terms of what’s going on in that country, it is a fundamental misunderstanding to see those images over, and over, and over again of some boy walking out with a vase and say, “Oh, my goodness, you didn’t have a plan.” That’s nonsense. They know what they’re doing, and they’re doing a terrific job. And it’s untidy, and freedom’s untidy, and free people are free to make mistakes and commit crimes and do bad things. They’re also free to live their lives and do wonderful things, and that’s what’s going to happen here.

Driftglass on history and big corporate media:
Yes, George W. Bush's Iraqi Debacle now barely registers at all in the public memory not because it was trivial or transient or because the blood and treasure and international reputation we pissed away on that catastrophe didn't permanently wound our the nation. It stopped registering as a thing of existential importance in the public mind because the combined efforts of the Republican party, the Conservative media and the Beltway media which employs both Ms. Tur and Mr. Meachum conspired to make it so.
After Iraq went completely tits up -- at precisely the moment when machinery of Mr. Meacham's idea of history should have kicked in to strip the entire Republican party and their media enablers bare and drive them into the wilderness for the next 40 years -- the exact opposite happened when the political and media establishment intervened massively to make sure they were all let off the hook....tens of millions of rabid Republican, Bush-loving, Libtard-hating Iraq War boomers suddenly became Obama-hating Tea Party Independents who really, really hated deficits and Obamacare but had never even heard of George W. Bush.......
...cushy, lifetime sinecures were found on the op-ed pages of every major American newspaper and on every cable news program for virtually all of the Bush administrations speechwriters, torture pimps and most ardent apologists.

Yeah, and when Trump goes down in flames, the same kind of reinvention will happen again.
These people are masters at marketing, shameless self-promotion and survival -
for everything else they're clueless, the bottom feeders...
