Theresa May votes to fight a leadership challenge if one is triggered, defending her Brexit policy as being ‘in our national interest.’
By Tom McTague & Annabelle Dixon @ Politico.eu, July 9

Johnson’s decision is a hammer blow to the prime minister just days after she received the formal backing of her Cabinet for a controversial new Brexit plan that would tie the U.K. to EU rules and regulations on goods and agricultural products in perpetuity after Brexit. During the all-day meeting of the Cabinet at Chequers to discuss the proposals Friday, Johnson allegedly described the plan as “a big turd.” [...]

sounds like vaguely familiar behavior along the lines of not only "there is no such thing as bad publicity" but also "publicity uber alles":

Did Trump Just Help Stop Brexit?
By Andrew Sullivan @ NYmag.com, July 13
He just humiliated Theresa May, but the endorsement of a despised U.S. president may prove to be the Breixit hardliners' undoing.

Yeah, it queers the "special relationship" at a time when that was justification for why they don't need the EU (and gives word to "you're going to be odd man out - we'll be trading with the EU, not you". It invokes UK unity against a huge insult and threat, and despite years of invective, that threat isn't the guys in Brussel patiently negotiating with a petulant and deluded UK Brexit team.
Farage was clever - for 24 hours. Now that Trump has delivered his shit sandwich, he's also a cunning manipulative treasonous maggot. Making the front page of tabloids everywhere was a great triumph - I.e. splashingly ostentiously won the battle. And even more hugely lost the war. Those huge crowds? They got the laconic Brits out in the street against Trump. But soon they'll be coming for May or whoever, as it's been made even more clear how dishonest these Brexit puppetmasters were. And the ties between Farage and Putin as steadily divulged by Mueller and that Welsh reporter Cadwalladr for The Guardian makes it more clear.
BTW, it's extremely fortunate that Croatia beat UK in FIFA (ironically in Moscow), as otherwise the nation would be solidifying under football rapture, but now that huge disappointment adds to the growing rebellion. On to the Bastille. Oh, guess who UK's playing for consolation prize today? Belgium. Even more delicious - once again they can mess with each other in a dance that's largely irrelevant to what's really going on.
