Muhammad Ali Jr., the 44-year old Muslim son of the world-famous boxer who died last year, was held for several hours at Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Feb. 7 when he and his family returned home from a trip to Jamaica.... "This is an outrage," Chris Mancini, a former federal prosecutor and the family's lawyer, told the Miami New Times. "I don't know what is going on with Mr. Trump's claim that his ban is not religion-based.

If the profile being worked here is Muslim-sounding names, one has to wonder if Barack Hussein Obama will be next?

Australian female children's book writer who has been to the US 116 times detained and harrassed at US border for hours. They say half of ICE recruits flunk the pre-hire lie detector test, drug syndicates try to turn or infiltrate the border force, and if Trump hires 15,000 more way way way ahead of schedule it will reduce US security not increase it.

she describes
what I was talking about in my comment on the other thread.
While I know certain minority profiles get it in excess, I guess I just want the latter to know that these kind of thugs are often equal opportunity oppressors. I sometimes think those who get it in excess imagine this world where little old white ladies always get treated deferentially by the power freaks; that's not reality. It's basically the Stanford Prison Experiment syndrome, I guess.
by artappraiser on Sat, 02/25/2017 - 10:54am
The snowflakes are certainly having a heyday with this latest false narrative. This is a sad story with Ali Jr living in poverty in Chicago until recently hanging out with his drug dealer buddies and getting high. I don't know if he has gotten his millions in inheritance from the Ali Sr estate but that combination may have put him on a watchlist especially returning from Ganga Land.
This border shakedown has nothing at all to do with immigration or vetting or religion although the border guards may have asked if he converted to Rastafarian.
Border guards have never been known for their bedside manner and i mean never anytime in history so there is no use in whining about that. Being the son or the ex-wife of a celebrity does not bestow special rights or privileges on anyone and anyone can be detained and questioned at the border.
It seems some Clintonites can't stop trying to portray working class citizens as deplorables even as Trump's hiring at ICE is reversing Obama's austerity layoffs and they will be rounding up criminals of the illegal alien variety.
I think the Clintonites realize they haven't got a chance of winning in the next two elections so they will continue to spew vitriol and bile, they have nothing else to offer.
by Peter (not verified) on Sat, 02/25/2017 - 11:52am
So, an American citizen who is named Mohammad Ali is fair game because of his name? Or skin color? Or once lived in Chicago? Or went to Jamaica? Or just because Border Officers are dicks and have always been dicks? It seems to me that dickiness has just gotten a big (tiny) thumbs up from trump.
There is no false narrative here. The Australian 70 year-old woman also got (as Beaver Cleaver would have said) THE BUSINESS.
trump and his cronies want a police state, and they enable those with any power at all to behave the way they are behaving. It seems pretty obvious that the vitriol and bile is coming out of the mouths of the trump gang.
by CVille Dem on Sat, 02/25/2017 - 2:01pm
You just made me think of how it's no longer going to be some fun to do the San Diego to Tijuana little trip, probably going to be royal assholes at the gate going in both directions.
The point about an American citizen is well-made, as it is only rational to think that American citizens be treated preferentially to foreigners, that kind of profiling is okay, no? Since the citizens are paying their salaries to protect the citizens from people who don't have approval to be here? Am I right how that works? </being facetious>
yez, okay, I'll give them that if an American citizen tried to sneak in those Eyetalian boots without paying duty, or more than $10K cash, that's their job too. So if you left the country and are returning by air, they can rifle through your suitcases and check your pockets that the TSA has already x-rayed. But harassing people for anything else like a jerky beat cop: can't even really be argued to be their job!
by artappraiser on Sat, 02/25/2017 - 7:01pm
Jr. may have a nicer more well balanced and congenial personality than you exhibit in this particular comment.
And it is true that those who are steeped in vitriol and hate may justify those base emotions in themselves by projecting them as originating in others.
Having personally crossed many borders from Europe to Oceania the last 3 years the treatment by border security was both courteous and professional. Your standards for official behaviors in that regard seem to run from North Korea to the Third Reich. The gory scent of authoritarianism from the top intoxicates, validates and enables the little despots in uniforms at the bottom.

There is no surprise when racist deplorables cheer when Trump abuses the rights of a black citizen of the United States, David Duke is smiling.

And the Deplorables have so little to cheer about...SAD! Trump is working so hard to keep the con going.

That's crap - I've had 1 only slightly huffy experience with US border guards, and always expected worse than I or others got. And while they have a job to do, before 9/11 it was a breeze, and after they still maintained some decorum despite a lot of new work, regulations, concerns, border chaos.
by PeraclesPlease on Sun, 02/26/2017 - 3:52am
This fake news story is spreading through the media, it appears to be drug related not anything to do with Trump's immigration/refugee policy.
It's possible this fake news is being used to deflect from the Perez/DNC story where a moderate Muslim was attacked by powerful Clintonite forces.
by Peter (not verified) on Sun, 02/26/2017 - 9:35am
Um...that is not a fake news story.
This is a fake news story:
Perez was elected, and he IMMEDIATELY and by acclimation, brought Ellison in as his deputy. Ie: no attack.
Fake news = lying, spinning inaccurately, withholding facts, and knowingly deceiving. I guess you are almost
as good at projection as trump, who probably doesn't even know the meaning of the word. Do you?
by CVille Dem on Sun, 02/26/2017 - 9:52am
There is no second place position under Perez, that was a sop to keep Ellison from bolting and it is really an insult. Read some of the threats used by the Clintonite power elite and Zionist money bags used to turn the election. Ellison made the unforgivable mistake of saying that Palestinians are human too and that sacrilege made him a targeted Muslim.
It took me about five minutes to find the real story about Ali Jr printed long before this incident. He was heavily in debt to Chicago gang drug dealers and was associated with them. This is the type of behavior that gets citizens placed on databases and then border watch lists. His neighbors worried that the drug dealers would somehow get at his inheritance but his mother seems to be guiding him now so he might be okay. This fake news circus will continue now that the lawyers have the word Muslim to point their crooked fingers at.
by Peter (not verified) on Sun, 02/26/2017 - 10:58am
You are a liar. U.S. Customs did not say that drug dealing was the cause of the detention, Cite a reference.
Edit to add:
Trump supporters are gullible. They are also so deep in love with the white supremacist pretender to the Presidency that they will absorb any lie about a black person. Ali Jr. has traveled overseas repeated, yet wingnuts tell us the mob" is out to get his money. Ali Jr can get cash to go overseas, yet the "mob" does nothing. Only a racist mind could buy this nonsense.
Peter is too much of a coward to actually post a reference because he knows it will be ridiculed, so here is a link to a story that suggests Ali Jr. smokes weed. Note there is no mention of how much debt is supposed to owe. There is no report of drug arrests. The story says that women are throwing themselves at his feet for cash. Again the mob is unable to collect money from a guy who frequently flies overseas. This is crap and Peter knows that it is crap. The fact that he repeats the nonsense says a great deal about Peter.

Trump bragged about groping multiple women, he paid out $25 million for Trump U fraud, he stiffed contractors, piano salesmen, teen singers etc. He fantasized about shooting people, he race baits and continually lies, he insults heads of state and mocks the disabled. The list of Republican who cheat on their wives, fail in child support, use hookers or abuse children is ever expanding.
70 million Americans are on Medicaid. 45 million on food stamps. Ali Jr. has had problems as with many celebrity children. But he lives with his family and ensures his kids are fed and have a home, even if in a bad neighborhood.
Trump lives in a gold bunker, plays golf every weekend and plans to take food and healthcare away from millions. He doesn't pay taxes. Trump has a long history of racism, his Dad was jailed for slum lord violations in the 70s. Trumps first lawyer was Joe McCarthy's sidekick, Roy Cohn, a lying rabble rousing hater.
Only a racist could adore Trump and gin up abuse on Ali Jr.

When Trump supporters post things that identify their core values, they need to be be called out.
by rmrd0000 on Sun, 02/26/2017 - 3:28pm
One thing that stands out in the case of Ali Jr is the willingness the Right has in stereotyping black people. White trash Trump could not believe that John C. Lewis did not represent a crime-infested neighborhood. Trump followers can easily label Ali Jr. a drug dealer. That satisfies their picture of black men.

I was being sarcastic.
by artappraiser on Sun, 02/26/2017 - 3:11pm
I thought so and so was I. Your sarcasm didn't give me a fever, didn't bother me one bit, but it did put a moderately sarcastic response into the ream of fair play, I think. This comment thread includes by Peter the statement: "It's possible this fake news is being used to deflect from the Perez/DNC story where a moderate Muslim was attacked by powerful Clintonite forces." To which the underlined part was immediately called fake news. [I have no opinion on the first part of that sentence] Part of your sarcasm, "oooh powerful Clintonite forces!" in response to the same aomment indicated to me that you you were denying that powerful Clinton forces did work against Ellison or maybe that there isn't even such a thing as powerful Clinton forces. You can clear that up too if you choose. My very next comment at the indexed section and to my own blog was in part about that very subject. Maybe I should have put it here but that would have played into hijacking the post, which seemed on the verge of happening, more than just a natural digression or expansion from the original subject which in many cases is perfectly acceptable, IMO. Also, there were additional things I felt like saying saying right then so I put several comments in my own blog. For the record here, I think the public record is pretty clear that Clinton forces did work to defeat Ellison. That is not fake news.
by A Guy Called LULU on Sun, 02/26/2017 - 4:46pm
So, Democrats who supported president Obama and Hillary Clinton are:
That more DEMOCRATS favored one person over another is not unusual. When you add in that the other one is a busy Senator who was backed by someone who has never been a DEMOCRAT, is not only not surprising; it also does not equal working to defeat Ellison.
So yes. Your take on it is fake news! It falls into the category of being intentionally misleading, and that is why I called the quote above false news as well.
What about the idea that a Senator has enough to do and Chairman of the DNC is too much to add on?
Edited to make block quote accurate. My apologies.
by CVille Dem on Mon, 02/27/2017 - 7:56am
Shouldn't the standard be that something posted in block quotes actually be a quote?
The busy Senator said he would quit the Senate if elected. Perez had to be coaxed to take the job according to some reports. Maybe, maybe not.
Here, here, and here are three different writers reporting on the subject. In each piece are multiple supporting links.

Ellison lost. Are you refusing to support Democratic candidates, even those who don't pass your purity test?
by rmrd0000 on Sun, 02/26/2017 - 8:33pm
I understand that Ellison lost the race which was within a single Party. He was a politician in a race against another politician. The voters were politicians. All of the politicians were steadily politicking as were some powerful outside influences. The different politicking politicians ended up being on one side or another. The side that won is described by at least a few, but I think most, serious observers as being aligned with and led by what they call the Clinton/Obama side of the Democratic Party. As in virtually all political contests there was some dirty politicking, maybe on both sides. I know there was on one side. Absolutely nothing I have said about this issue indicates I have applied some purity test or even who I would have voted for.
by A Guy Called LULU on Sun, 02/26/2017 - 9:27pm
The vast majority of the articles I read, even the ones that support Sanders pick of Ellison, call Perez Obama's pick. Some refer to him as the Obama/Clinton pick. Of course you refer to it as the Clinton/Obama side of the party. Peter on a good day calls it the Clinton wing but usually the Red Queen or some such nonsense. That alone reveals your bias and your delusion. Obama for many reasons but at least due to the last 8 years as president has far more power in the party than Hillary or Bill. Clinton derangement syndrome and especially Hillary hate is not a mental illness that exclusively afflicts republicans.
by ocean-kat on Sun, 02/26/2017 - 10:17pm
Republicans were earnestly prepared to link Ellison to the Muslim Brotherhood, and a Sheikh who held a leadership position in an Islamic organization that issued a Fatwa to kill US troops in Iraq.

When you allow law enforcement to run wild, many people get caught in the net. It is interesting that they at least gave a feeble rationale for the detention in the case of the French historian, but say nothing in the case of Ali's son.

This snippy [racist term deleted] was violating immigration law but received special treatment when he was allowed into the country. This is just a reminder that even important [insulting term for Europeans deleted] have to follow the rules when entering the US.
The fact that he was going to help educate 144 Aggies has nothing to do with the rules he either ignored or sidesteped. I would hope someone as educated as Rousso would understand the difference betweem vacation and work in a foreign country.
by Peter (not verified) on Mon, 02/27/2017 - 10:23am
So the white trash President and his supporters are proud to block a French scholar who has traveled to the United States for 30 years from entering the country. Great, French people are "Frogs" - what kind of epithet can I rework from your name, I wonder...
When/if conferences become "working" for visa purposes, a whole lot of both academic and professional business will come to a halt.

My French ancestor left Normandy a while ago with a fellow called the Bastard and even though that was a thousand years ago i may have inherited some of the sharp French tongue.

"May not apply, try staying up to date on subjects" - you ass, you don't know what you're talking about and we're supposed to go run around correcting your mistakes? You throw around so much speculative, pejorative bullshit with no thought to ever finding a fucking reference to back up your nasty opinion. Did William the Bastard teach you that? Well it doesn't fly in America 1000 years later, even for Donald the Bigger Bastard. Don't flatter yourself that you've inherited any French wit - maybe you've overstayed your visa as well.
You could have done what RMRD did and find a decent link that elaborates on his point of view - but no, you just dig deeper into "I'm right and you're stupid for not knowing how right I am".
I'm going to stop now, but if you keep this shit up I'm going to recommend your account be suspended unless you learn to post something useful rather than more speculative toxic bullshit every time you bless us with your cynical droppings. Customs has gone into hiding regarding the matter.
Your continuing defense of the white supremacist pretending to be the President is amusing. Trump is so loved that white racists, Evangelicals, and people who hate Putin bow before him. They are willing to give up their principles so they can have Trump make their miserable white lives better by infringing the rights of others.
The Frenchman, as you call him, made no mistake. The Customs agents made the mistake. You continue to lie to support a white supremacist
Stop slandering people. If you have something that proves Ali was detained because of drugs post it. If he had drugs, Ali would be under arrest. Prove that the French scholar made an error. If he truly made an error, then Customs broke the law. You slanders are transparent. You are a liar.

by NCD on Mon, 02/27/2017 - 1:42pm
Peter never provides a link. That enables him to slander Muhammad Ali Jr. All Peter has to do is say that he read that Muhammad Ali Jr. is a drug dealer. He gets to make the slanderous charge and we have go digging to find the information that shows the holes in the assertion. This is the way racists work. Trump saw Muslims celebrating when the Twin Towers fell, knows that John Lewis serves a poor black neighborhood, and knows that the Central Park Five are guilty. Peter loves Trump because he loves fact-free racist behavior.
