Begs the question: why is it so common in the U.S. to label Americans who are equally or less xenophobic about immigrants as racists?
I think doing so degrades the power of the racist label. Call xenophobes xenophobic, not racist, unless you have real evidence it's about race.

The racism term remains applicable. Given that current attacks by racists include native born citizens, fear of the foreign as suggested by xenophobia is less accurate.

Blacks are citizens of the United States. Trump, Bannon, Miller, etc. are racists. People who vote for a white supremacist are racists.

Edit to add: not to mention there's the whole thing about this being a thread about xenophobia among people with black skin against other people with black skin in South Africa.
