“I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House. I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration,” Trump tweeted, adding that he would name a replacement next week.

Thank you for reminding me about "bigly"! I forgot about that one! It perfect describes what's going on now with the Great Presidental Reality Show.

You can’t fire me...I quit!

you got the picture! I am vaguely reminded of some stories from the Bush years about him throwing dishes at aides or something along those lines...famously has a bit of a temper...

Edit to add: methinks C'Ville Dem knew about this, hence her comment, doh.

NYT op ed:
"Mr. Bolton’s singular achievement was to dismantle a foreign-policymaking structure that had until then kept the president from running foreign policy by the seat of his pants. Mr. Bolton persuaded Mr. Trump he didn’t need the National Security Council to make decisions; it is no surprise that the president eventually felt confident deciding he did not need a national security adviser, either. Whether Mr. Trump names a replacement for Mr. Bolton does not matter: No one is going to convince the president he needs a system"

thanks for the pointer! As everybody has something to say about this, it seems, I would like to add the title is How John Bolton Broke the National Security Council: He weakened one of the few constraints that kept Trump from running foreign policy by the seat of his pants and that the author wrote “White House Warriors,” a history of the National Security Council, so he might actually know what he's talking about!

I think it was McMaster who made Trump sit through NSC meetings with 14+ members, and Trump would fall asleep or walk out after 20 minutes. They later used story boards with limited text.

i recall they parodied that whole thing quite nicely more than once in the few episodes of Showtime's Our Cartoon President that I saw. The McMaster character was done pretty well as I think back and now that I have seen him interviewed about his book. He really doesn't want to talk about individuals, motivations, etc., is total left brain, just wants to do stuff, however possible.

hah, you couldn't make this stuff up! apparently he was outed to Trump as the leaker of the "nuke a hurricane" story:
