Howdy Daggers . . .
In Bruce Levine's thread The Affordable Care Act--Can it Work? there was the following snippets of a comment posted by Artappraiser:
Stuff like this from the article was real scary: on the Friday following the Fourth of July, quietly released a 606-page regulation that delayed requirements for the marketplaces to verify workers’ incomes and employment status.
--snip--
I'm hoping people like Mr. Smas have a poster in their office along these lines: it's the bureaucracy, stupid.
No doubt there are many folks such as you Artappraiser who are chewing their fingernails wondering and worrying how this big change will all work out.
That headline above was from Forty-eight (48) years ago, found in the WonkBlog by Sara Kliff When Medicare launched, nobody had any clue whether it would work (excellent article) The headline is from a Special to the New York Times, no less.
If you'll note...that wee bit at the end says, "...many of the people intimately concerned with the program are unsure whether they face chaos, or just bureaucratic confusion..."
One more thing...
Is there anyone here who would venture to guess and tell us how many pages relating to MEDICARE statutes and changes to the statutes have been published and implemented over the past 48 years? Really... I haven't a clue and I'm not about to research it.
I hope everything works out for you Artappraiser... I also hope it all works out for those who are really in dire need.
BTW : Yes... Maggie Maher is topnotch!

Wow, OGD, long time no see! Glad you came back, and thanks for that perspective on the fears around Medicare. The Republicans' worst fear is that ObamaCare will work, which is why they don't want it to get off the ground.

Ronnie, 1961, on the proposed Medicare program, which did not pass that year:
"One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine. It’s very easy to disguise a medical program as a humanitarian project, most people are a little reluctant to oppose anything that suggests medical care for people who possibly can’t afford it."
(no such reluctance today from the GOP!)

Well hello again Ducky.
I missed this post.
You are my expert in Obamacare for sure.
So I thought I could at least chime in.
In Minnesota I pay $34/month for medical insurance.
I receive age 62 SS.
I do not receive Medicare bennies until 2015.
But somehow I am covered under some combination of cheap insurance and maybe Medicaid and Obamacare.
After of year of this 'coverage' I show up in the ER with an infection and the doctor gives me an Rx for an antibiotic and Hydrocodone?
I get back to the drugstore the next day and I hand over the RX and the lady is on the phone for 1/2 an hour. Why? I dunno.
Finally they have my prescription filled and I am billed at the counter for six bucks.
I went nuts. I thought I would have to pay sixty bucks. I have no idea how this works in Minnesota.
I would bet this computer that in South Carolina I would have to pay sixty bucks.
Because the Carolinas are saying frick you Obamacare.
Anyway my infection went away (and no I am sorry to say my problem had nothing to do with nooky. hahhaah)
Six bucks!
I still have pain killers left. I mean there were only like 20 pills.
Things are good in Minnesota I guess!

There appears to be much confusion about what is and is not Obamacare. You appear to be using Medicaid for your coverage which is not part of the ACA although the ACA included an expansion of Medicaid. South Carolina has a large Medicaid program just like all other states with similar benefits like you enjoy. BTW the full retail price of those drugs you used is less than $20. The real debate is about the core of the ACA which is a mandate requiring people to buy private for profit health coverage or face tax sanctions.

Oh hi Peter.
Good to see you again.
I think you are right but I have to tell you that I have five hundred pages of explanations regarding what I am covered for under the insurance policy they sent me.
And I tell you that nobody on the patient level can figure this stuff out.
I found it interesting what you state about SC. I do not doubt you in this regard.
We have these repub govs dissing Obamacare and then there are the repub govs endorsing Obamacare. Including that lady in Arizona who really really intrigues me.
Anyway, I have two college degrees and I cannot figure this stuff out.
Oh and four years ago? I received a prescription for some psycho drug that did not work; it did cost 60 bucks and scared the hell out of me and some private Arrowhead concern (state and fed funded) fixed it so that it cost 6 bucks. Except I swear to God it almost killed me. hahahahah
Three doses and I was through. And I never sought further prescriptions.
I simply recorded here what happened to me.
I can tell you that somehow I have some sort of dental coverage but no dentists within fifty miles will help me with my teeth.
That is enough for now.
Thank you for chiming in.
