On Morning Joe Johnson whiffed "What's Aleppo?". Then the NY fuckin' Times byline "reporter", Alan Rappaport showed his own ass by writing in such fashion as to require the following corrections subsequently:
Correction: September 8, 2016
An earlier version of this article misidentified the de facto capital of the Islamic State. It is Raqqa, in northern Syria, not Aleppo.
Correction: September 8, 2016
An earlier version of the above correction misidentified the Syrian capital as Aleppo. It is Damascus.

I actually feel great sympathy for Johnson in this situation. He wasn't on the same page and thought Aleppo was an acronym. I have no doubt that he is well aware of the mess in Syria, and actually once he was back on track his suggestion to essentially hold our nose and join with Russia to give it back to Assad and leave.
It's a hell of a lot better than what we are doing now, which is running around chasing our tails.

So we're going to abandon the region to an Assad-Putin-Erdogan alliance just as Erdogan is carrying out a massive crackdown on civil liberties and Putin's bombing Kurds.
Yes, leaving always sounds simpler than staying, and simplistic answers to complex unsatisfying largely lose-lose situations always sound better than trying to solve the arguably unsolvable - except the results of that simplicity are typically unpalatable. How was that planning-free Brexit? oh yeah, it didn't actually solve any of the things it was supposed to solve.
Most reporters are dumb as a bag of rocks, and write what they're fed (not in the old days, but now they work by dictation or play 'how does that make you feel?" shrink) - we're electing a president, not a reporter. Johnson screwed the pooch. What were the top 5 foreign policy regions he would expect to be asked about? maybe South China Sea, Crimea + Donbas, Syrian/Turkish border with ISIS, maybe West Bank + Gaza, add in 1 or 2 more.

Shit fire, Perecles -- what is the answer? I'm at a loss, but I'd love to hear your take on this. Honestly, it is Thursday, so I have one idea. Give me one for Friday -- PLEASE, Perecles!!!!!

Lessee, keep our own boots off the ground, don't let Putin get a real toehold, hold out on Turkey until sanity returns, work with the Kurds but only so far as they'll always be persona non grata, No Instant Miracles, except thank God it's a smaller problem than the Iraq-Iran-Afghanistan-Pakistan corridor, and ISIS will likely be done with as an issue in 2-3 years, so stalling for time is a great tactic (like overflights and containment in the 90's)

Trump has a top secret plan to end it in less than 30 days.
And......I kid you not.....make the Chinese pay for it.
Yes the Chinese. They don't know it yet.
While lowering taxes and ripping off all the oil.
That is leadership, new improved GOP style.

Use "plan" in a sentence:
" I plan to let General Rubble ( not Barney) decide"

I'd like that to be my Friday "take on Syria," but I like Perecles' better.
Why? Because it is so DOABLE!
My Saturday (actual weekend) plan is a special cease-fire during which continuous viewing of Pre- and current- war videos are played, showing the hideous destruction of homes, families, ancient artifacts, etc are shown. Children blown to bits or just hideously injured...antiquities that were put up by people no longer known (and so why hate them?)
Is it too much to ask that warring people stop and think, and maybe have a shred of humanity left? If I could I would strip everyone of their clothing and wash their brains of their hatred, and I would like to see them huddle together and work together to make this planet a better place.
PS. I feel the same way here except that I don't want to see our candidates "stripped of their clothing." EWWWW!

free hugs vs landmines - which one wins?
strip malls, strip mining, strip poker, comic strips - which doesn't belong? (hint: nothing funny about mining)
I "plan" to sit on my ass all weekend drinking a few beers hoping the world solves its copious problems so I don't have to write about it.

Not sure mine's "doable" or doing much besides "no land wars in Asia" but hope here are some practical steps w Obama and Putin.
