One could make certain jokes but I am deadly serious: what I see is that GOP political image consultants, who are far savvier at culture wars than Dem consultants, have invaded the Supreme Court
Comments
P.S. Adding to my comment on the post: just try now, Dems, to get GOP women to switch their vote because they put a misogynist on the Supreme Court. Why don't Dems have culture warriors this smart? I see all kinds of tweets bashing Taylor Swift as clueless liberal already, the trial memes are flying and the pros will be watching for which one flies best and it will be on Fox tomorrow, Trump will throw in a meme or two and then there will no doubt be a counter panel on Taylor Swift on MSNBC tomorrow night.

The GOP political ops know how to do culture wars! This is how Trump won, all you need is to swing a few in the right places:

If people take this bait, there is nothing Democrats can do to change their minds. People who cast votes because of Taylor Swift are already lost.
by rmrd0000 on Mon, 10/08/2018 - 10:23am
I’m hoping you are wrong. I don’t think many people will change their votes because of Taylor Swift, but some young people may show up to vote who otherwise might not have. Sometimes people do big things for very small reasons. I once bought a bench grinder because it caught my eye when I went into Lowe’s to buy light bulbs.

a bench grinder
Hey, that's sposed to be a guy thing! Good for you, you feminazi, you!
by artappraiser on Mon, 10/08/2018 - 11:28am
Bench grinder, is that a technical term for a certain kind of Supreme Court Justice?

Thanks for the compliment. I also have every kind of electrical saw known to mankind! I like carpentry and pottery.

We actually agree. I think people who are angered by some.celebrity making a political point are lost to a given party. I was pissed when Ted Nugent and Kid Rock made political comments. There was nothing Republicans could do to win me over under any circumstance. Nugent and Rock were background noise. You may be right that she will get some young people who agree with her to vote.

Why? People follow their heroes, their examples. Why's Taylor a worse example than Beyonce in Cleveland or that Hispanic singer I forget in Miami or Katy Perry in LA? I think it's actually a bigger deal because she stayed on the sidelines forever, not just a natural activist. Avanatti inspires some people - great. Others like Clooney or Richard Gere or Bernie or Alyssa Milano or Sean Penn or LeBron or whoever - great, it takes all types.

Part of being an informed electorate is knowing when you are being played.
by rmrd0000 on Mon, 10/08/2018 - 8:37am
Wrong answer.
Independents, swings and centrists think both parties play games, including on Ford vs. Kavanaugh. Here's an example of a new convert.
It ended up a she said vs. he said with a lot of female sympathy or empathy going to the she. Do not mistake sympathy for outrage. Every sympathetic woman is not a full fledged #MeToo. Outrage is what Kavanaugh showed, lots of women don't like outrage in general, learned not to trust it.
"Informed" voters now know all Kavanaugh's research will be done and draft opinions will be written by female clerks.
Problem solved for GOP as far as "informed" voters are concerned. Kavanaugh's poor outraged and partisan judicial temperament will be tamed by female clerks researching and writing the opinions.
Idiots and partisans and the outraged are going to vote how they are going to vote.
GOTV can go 100% in already blue districts, not going to help Dems win a majority in the House and Senate.

P.S. I am convinced now that this is the main message all Dems need to pursue for the next month to win:
by artappraiser on Mon, 10/08/2018 - 9:42am
If the country at large looks at the facts and votes in Republicans, the country is lost. Most ethnic minorities are voting for Democrats. They will even vote in majorities for Democrats who never show up in their communities like McCaskill. There is only one group of voters where majorities vote for Republicans. Democrats reach out to white voters. The result is usually like expecting Susan Collins to vote against Brett Kavanaugh. If people are willing to ignore facts, there is no Democratic message that will work.

Will they be wearing tube tops and short shorts as they file their "briefs"? Daddy's demanding, need a firm hand at the helm.

And so "Peter", if you are still with us where are all the male snowflakes to call Kavanaugh on this act of affirmative action victimization of the male clerkship applicants?

Maybe he's busy celebrating white males winning the Identity Politics Victim Olympics for the time being?

Peter,
I don't denigrate people. Including Kavaugh's law clerks ,no doubt first class, nor his family including his daughter who shamed us all.
I disagree with his position about abortion and with those who share it ,many good friends who otherwise agree with me on many other issues.
While I don't denigrate Kavanaugh I detest men who abuse women sexually. . He did . Dr Ford .
We both heard them . The two of them. Last week. She was convincing.Spoke for hours, plainly and to the point. I waited to see whether he would change my mind. I was open to that. People do. What did Keynes say?
So I waited last Thursday. He's a smart man. With a first class education per se. And in particular in marshalling facts and preventing them to lead his listeners to a conclusion. So I waited. I'm still waiting.
Not a word of that.
Instead he told us his family had suffered. He would have been quite right to explain that . After he taken you and me and the audience through information that would cause us to believe he was falsely accused. Which he never did. His way of demonstrating he was falsely accused was to falsely accuse the "Clintons ". And whine.
Why. ?With a once in a life time opportunity to compose a speech that would clear his reputation, he didn't .
Because he didn't write a speech at all. Up all night writing that? A lie. He didn't have the time, the energy or the tools to do that. Claiming he wrote that the night before his " performance" was like claiming he never attempted to rape Christine.
Instead it was Hamlet without the Prince. Or rather it was Brett's advisors with him in a room with the last version in the memory waiting for printing.
I wonder whether the text says : Here's where you blubber/
.

Certainly I think Kavanaugh is a rapist. An unsuccessful one, fortunately, because she escaped. He hadn't attemped to attack he attempted to enter her body.
Of course there weren't witnesses as in 99% of the cases. . Except for gang bangs, rapes happen when the two participants are alone. If there are observers , there's no rape because they stop it.
But you know that.

I saw that on Twitter and it was catchy and cute. But it also struck me that she is basically voicing it's the hypocrisy ya stupid lunks in a gentle, less angry way than "feminazis", which is the role that women have always played in most cultures as the soothers of the male psyche and the family stresses in general. And that got me thinking that as "the patriarchy" finally starts dying off and there are no longer many of the knee-jerk protectors of it like there are now--which will eventually happen--there will instead be very eloquent and tortured mourning of its demise in art and song by all sexes, and it will be very romanticized (Like people do now with like, the 1950's, both left and right--left with all the crap about how it was a golden age when the middle class was so happy and could afford everything--except for things like Betty Friedan screaming existential pain in the kitchen, that is, and no credit for anyone but the upper class, etc.) You don't get rid of 2,000+ year old culture easy.
by artappraiser on Tue, 10/09/2018 - 9:16am
As they kill off "the patriarchy" they might take note that the patriarchy still controls 90% of the earnings. And while with automation there's a decrease in imbalanced need for men to kill themselves in soldiering, coal mines, construction jobs, police work, hazmat cleanup, garbage trucks, quarries, oil rigs, lumberjacking, truck/bus driving, ocean faring, sports biz and other dangerous work or 70-80 hour per week expectation that might have warranted some of the "soothing of the male psyche" as art of our great cultural tradeoff, those psyches might not react so complacently to a smug sidelining of anything that's perceived as too testosterone. There's a difference to getting rid of rape culture to "men don't do anything useful" which *some* SJW's may not quite grasp.
